RE: Pic of the Week: Bigfoot Spotted...
Friday 10th February 2012
Those of you with good memories for quotes may recall that Little Britain character Andy Pipkin declared (at least according to carer Lou Todd) that "Finland has a maudlin quality to it, rendering it unsuitable as a holiday destination".
Pic of the Week: Bigfoot Spotted...
...well the Land Rover version, at least...
Not if your holiday includes some driving in one of these Defender bigfoots, built by Land Rover Special vehicles and used as part of LR's Nordic Adventure programme.
You can read all about editor Trent's Land Rover adventure in Finland's snowbound wastes in his own words in the feature we published yesterday, but for now just sit back, relax, and enjoy four sizes of snowy bigfoot wallpaper...

BTW - does anyone know any technical specs on this Land Rover?

I drove the 2007 plated car seen here in 2010. On the road it was a truly unruly beast! The tyres are not balanced, so violently shake the "car", after taking a corner the speed that they do this at changes - it certainly made for a fun drive. As did being left hand drive on B Roads, you have no idea where the off side wheels are!!
The cost - well I was in formed by Land Rover Experience that it had cost around £75,000 to create, so I was to look after it better than my own children!
Some of the spec I can remember:
The HUGE Mickey Thompson tyres
Mach 5 rims with bead locks
Air diff locks
CB radio (two)
Power inverters
Multiple batteries with split charging
9.5 tonne winch
Devon 4x4 front winch bumper
Full body protection (above & below)
Custom roll cage/roof rack (rack has full chequer plate to act as a viewing platform)
4 150w floods to the front
2 50w floods each side
Full sized Spare Wheel - in the boot strapped to the roll cage
Lots of switches
And I will always want another go...

What size are the tyres, the offset of the rims and if they are running wheel spacers.
Also, who built them? Are the from the Land Rover special vehicles department or are they just modified aftermarket by a 3rd party company?
