If you have a 991 Turbo make sure you don't kerb the alloys!
Discussion
Client of mine with a 991 Turbo S was forced into a verge by an oncoming vehicle a few weeks ago and as a result the 2 near side wheels got a bit of damage on the outer edges (not majorly damaged but enough to annoy you). Car went to the Porsche approved bodyshop to have them refurbished but apparently these types can't be refurbed? (Diamond cut/lacquered faces with black inner spokes)
Just under £4.5k for 2 new replacement wheels!!

That was my first reaction, I've seen similar finishes refurbed before but the company who the bodyshop uses say they can't be done. They're a reputable company so I've no real reason to doubt them but found it surprising at the same time. You just cant keep doing it.
Still, I knew these alloys would be pricey but I was still a bit shocked!

If he took them to Lepsons refurbed for £75 each. they're no different in finish to 997 turbo. Won't be exactly the same but you could never tell difference. Just under £4.5k for 2 new replacement wheels!!
they can definitely be refurbed by a firm that does diamond cut alloys. The only caveat is that you may have circa 2 attempts to redo a wheel as then there is not enough lip left the wheel.
I would advise your friend to call a few places. the only other thing I can think of is that the machining process works up to a certain diameter of wheel - some places can only do up to 19"'s and from memory the new 991 has 20" wheels

Sorry but What a pisstake...
I had a few scratches on my GT2 I wanted tidied up so I took it to a Porsche approved repairer, I also asked them to quote to refurb the alloys to freshen them up as one had a kerb mark on it, he told me that it couldn't be done because of the wheel type, would need a new rear wheel instead, also said the tyre should be replaced, this was for small kerb mark with nothing on the tyre!!
I had the wheels refurbed and painted by Exel Wheels/Lepsons, no issues and they look like new.
My experience with Porsche bodyshops has been 100% bad news, I'd rather leave my car with scratches than let them loose on it!

As per the previous posters, Lepsons will do 20inch Diamond cut split rims for around £200inc per wheel.Just under £4.5k for 2 new replacement wheels!!
Over double the price of a standard 19inch wheel but it can be done.
