Todays RECALL on 991 GT3...

Push the boundary and you will get this sort of thing. Yes ideal would be its sorted before a customer sees it but in todays world of fast everything its not feasible. The Engineers on here will relate to what im saying and for the IT folk why doesnt windows or OSx work from the get go.

Engineering and software development are completely different when it comes to risk and impact analysis (unless the software is in control of someone's life) Do you honestly think an engineer will build a bridge over a river and say "we reckon it will work and if it starts to crack and a couple of cars fall off then we will add some more steel or redesign it later"
That sort of thinking is borne from budgetary constraints and a need to release the product to the public as soon as possible.

Or just post on Rennlist and have an adult discussion (note to self) and for the record I am one of the GT3 owners who do have "Miles on it" 2) Accept ALL criticism - because guarantee you WILL get it!

I do own a 991 GT3 and I do like to read these posts on Pistonheads, but l get fed up of all the negative bhing attitude that some people on these forums seem to create hence the reply to help the genuine owners of this model (This doesn't happen on rennlist)
Having read this post yesterday I phoned Porsche who informed me that there are 35 cars that are effected mine was not one of them as mine is a later 2015 model
The smoke issue that I have read about many times and l have asked Porsche about and they told me this is normal.
It used to happen on every start up and then it use to be every other start up or longer intervals.
It seems have stopped all together now that I have covered 4,500 miles and I have never had the need to top oil up from new which I was surprised at considering the clouds of blue smoke on start ups. Hope this helps current owners of this model.

My car has done over 7,000 and only really smokes when it's been sitting idle for a long time (which rarely happens, given how much fun it is to drive!).

Don't let the nego's get you down 5517 - we appreciate the post. :-)Always interesting to see how Porsche are managing their communications on this delicate matter. I do wish they'd drop the pretentious marketing language a little at times and call a spade a spade...the 'motorsport derived' bit really does take the biscuit considering it is precisely BECAUSE this engine is not the result of years of competitive track mileage that it appears to have endured a somewhat troubled birth. But Porsche will get it right given time, it's just I'm not sure I agree with them getting their customers to do their R&D for them!! Will be interesting to see how the Cup cars go with the 9A1 based engine in competition when that finally happens.
