Thinking about a 997 Turbo S
Discussion
I had a look around a nice low mileage example today and am quite interested but wanted a bit of advice from you guys. Is there anything obvious I should be asking about? Is the price currently about right? Seems to match with other examples with similar mileage. What are typical depreciation costs like at the moment on 997.2TTs? They don't seem to have moved much recently and not that you can trust the salesman but he thought they hadn't moved much for the last year. Depreciation isn't that important, but nice to know what I would be getting into.

Do they have one in another colour Price looks ok for a Official Porsche centre car with 2 years warranty
Spec looks good
Centre locks can be hard to live with
Colour is a bit marmite
I looked into buying one about two years ago - prices were pretty much the same....very early 991 turbo S are still £100k+, so this should protect values for 997s for a little longer.
Low.
The 997.1 TT are also holding up well so it will probably stay this way. Iirc the 997.2 turbo s didn't receive particularly good reviews at the time of its release, but for me it ticks all the boxes. Put on a europipe exhaust to at sort the lack of noise and you have the perfect GT car.

Absolutely stunning colour.
Ha, see what you mean. I'm not sure if I prefer black, but black is very common and this colour wasn't available as a standard option on the 7.2 Turbo S according to the man. It's Ruby Red Metallic if anyone knows otherwise.FeelingLucky said:
Noise is plenty as std.
I've lived with a TVR with a sports exhaust and decat for 6 years, my ears need a break! Thanks for the comments guys, gives me a bit more confidence.
Would you guys recommend getting an HPI check done and an independent inspection? Would the results of the 111 point check be enough? The car is going to have a major service done before being sold as the last two services were both minor ones. Also the car has had 4 owners, should that be a concern?

I believe that car has an incomplete service history, wrong services and not done on time? When a car is top money these things need to be right, because the next buyer will be bothered about it.I was the third owner of this car from August 2015 until March 2016. I recall taking the mileage from 12,000 to 15,000. I purchased it because I had never owned a Porsche 911 Turbo and wanted to tick that box. The first owner was a very wealthy lady in Fulham who traded the car for a new 991 Turbo S. The second owner was a car collector who then passed away and large parts of his collection were purchased as a single lot. I bought the car from an independent dealer and it had been serviced in July 2015 by OPC Solihull just before I saw the car. It had everything done except the plugs. I was prepared to have the plugs changed but OPC Hatfield put the 12 month warranty on the car for me in Nov 2015 (I had to wait for 90 days after purchasing the car before the OPC warranty could be added) and they passed the car as correct. I sold the car in March 2016 to a very good friend of mine who has a super collection of cars and his wife has used it as her main car.
It is a very well specified car with no adverse history. The only blip on the service history was the lack of plug change in July 2015 and I believe that has been rectified. If that stops you buying a car that otherwise meets your requirements then you probably need to buy new.
I have no involvement with this car now, other than I know the last owner. It is a great example of a 997 Turbo S in a good colour – a pleasant change from black, grey or silver. A 2 year Porsche Warranty should give you peace of mind.

Service history is:10/2012 8000 miles minor
07/2015 13429 miles minor
That second service is a year late and minor instead of major, but also only 5k miles between. It has now done 18.5k without an official major service, although as London GT3 said, it was only plugs that were not done for that second service.

Thanks for the info London, good to know a bit more about the history. The only reason it is giving me reason for pause is due to how it may look to a future purchaser. It is a slight blemish on an otherwise great car, and when they are asking slightly above similar examples you wouldn't expect that. When the second service is late and minor instead of major it would make you wonder if the car has been cared for properly around those times. All someone will probably see in the history is minor minor. I do plan on keeping the car for a while in which case it probably wouldn't matter as much, but you never know.OP. You owned a Red Rose lightweight Cerbera. Surely no purchase is scary after that!
Seriously, that colour is very special in the metal and such a pleasing deviation from the norm. For what it's worth, I dithered over a Speed Yellow 997 Turbo S about two years ago (at OPC Leeds) and lost out to another buyer. My shins are still bruised from constantly kicking myself! So I'd got for it, if I were you.
If you're playing safe, there's a really nice Turbo S currently for sale at a certain dealer in Derbyshire. Safer colour (GT silver), great spec and £13k less money...

Normal to have high number of owners on these cars.SL550M said:

OP - love the colour. Maybe the brake calipers clash a bit but I'm probably being a bit anal.

Normal to have high number of owners on these cars.Is an independent inspection worth it? Probably - I had mine inspected and bearing in mind it had a opc warranty, one of the rads was damaged (bird strike), bottom of the valance was damaged (£1000 to replace with opc painted part), wheel was kerbed (£120 opc quote) and it confirmed that hadn't had a major crash.

Being a 2010 car the service history should be as follows (3 service stamps in the book)
In 2012 should have had minor service & brake fluid change
In 2014 should have had major service, spark plugs and brake fluid change.
In 2016 should have had minor service, brake fluid change, air filter, a PDK clutch fluid changed, AWD fluid
Hope that helps
