you also get the new breed who want over run on EVERY gear change like the F types or sadly the 981 GTS cars.
And why not, it's fun! That's what driving these soon-to-be-classed-as-prehistoric sports cars is all about smile

Whatever. The PSE overfuelling is still a genuine engine/exhaust noise.

I am not sure overfueling to make the car fart/pop is genuine, but people like what they like, no right and wrong, I just hate it and have expressed my view ;-)

this is the stest sounding thing ever imo, ruins the flat 6 noise, but people love it.

I'll take the sound of mine every time, and the GT4 sound.

lol you might be on your own, it actually put me off a GTS as a daily, not that I like any 981 really bar the GT model.

like being 17 and putting a big bore thing on a Saxo fart box.

Just it seems it's now gone to super cars, we have people fitting by pass pipes on the new GT3 already and they cannot have gone above 5k revs yet ! and they will never make it on a normal track day !

"look at me cars" :-(

It's at least me, Henry Catchpole and the other 924 Cayman and Boxster 981 GTS owners wink

And yep, it's just like putting a Cherry Bomb on an XR2i isn't it? Just the same. Exactly.

A GT4 struggles to get on at Brands Hatch with a standard exhaust and ive been in two 991s black flagged with standard pipes so the exhaust mods are irrelevant really in the UK now.

I really dont think that spyder vid you posted with race headers sounds vastly different to a standard car.

In terms of the GTS exhaust i think youre generalising massively with saxos. The 3.4 engine (especially with pdk) has a nice crecendo to it, it certainly feels smoother engine to the 3.8 im Spyder and GT4.

Id also like to add that I have tracked everyone ot my cars, I am not an old fart and bar the spyder none of them have had standard geo.

All of these cars also sound artificial compared to a 996 GT3. No silly exhaust there just engine sound.

I do agree, that does sound pretty terrible. It's a bit Demon Tweeks tbh... I'm 41, not 21 any more. Had my days of Janspeed and Peco exhausts !

Don't get this farts thing at all. Give me some honest Mezger (and now also 1.2 GT3) sound any day of the week though

This ^

But tweak a Mk 1 996 GT3 properly and it becomes a perfect blend of induction, exhaust and engine noise that no GT4 or Spyder couldn't hope to match inside or out :

That's the thing about the hoary old Mezger unit, its sound is unique, and all the better for it. And if it's too "peaky" for road use hehe stick a Cup CWP in it and enjoy every one of those 8k rpm all the more often.

so you have done the hard work for me proving GT4 wins for torque lower down which is what 90% people want, inc Porsche if you look a the new GT3 engine. Torque wins races but more so torque fires you out of B road bends at realistic revs. again I DO STRESS how the fk do people get to WOT and 8.5k in 3rd gear In a GT3 on UK B roads ?
Wow, what an absolutely vast difference in torque - 3% more torque in the gt4. 750 rpm lower down which is hardly consequential either especially as at the same rpm the gt3 is travelling at a slightly slower speed than the gt4 so peak torque at 4750 rpm on the gt4 probably gives you much the same speed as 5500rpm on the gt3. And the fact that the gt3 continues to be a (great) pleasure up the rev range as power continues to increase unlike the gt4 is a considerable plus point for quite a few people (yes I realise not you.. can recommend a few turbo diesels that would have lots of torque low down and able to travel on b roads at realistic revs though....)

As a final point

Access to only one 'gt' car for regular use with occasional track use : GT4 (its a special car)

For track and less regular use: 997 GT3 as it will always be a GT3 however if you're after investment neither a .1 gt3 will always live in the shadow of the .2 so make sure its a high spec clubsport you get.

For investment, brilliant on road enjoyment and light track use: 996.2 gt3 clubsport.

A 996 gt3 at 4:30am through the surrey hills and south downs in July ranks as one of my best drives ever.

It's better but not significantly better. I'd rather drive the GT4 over the GTS any day, very slightly less free revving engine or not.
I would welcome the power kitted engine in the GT4 but its not going to make a big difference, on the road anyway.
