Good evening chaps ( & Ladies ) of course. I’m thinking of swapping the PCM for a CarPlay Unit. The car is a 997.1 can anyone recommend any good units. I know nothing about them so any advice will be a help. Cheers.
I replaced the PCM in my 997.1 (with Bose) with a Pioneer SPH DA120 a couple of years ago. The system's great and integrates well with Waze, CarPlay etc. Dynamic Sounds in Wandsworth did the installation for me. Highly recommended.

Strictly a garage queen, except for a couple weeks a year when we take it on a quick 3-5k mile euro road trip! It gets the odd local run out too.

Totally with you. My 997 isn’t wrapped in cotton wool, however, does not go out in the wet as a rule. Gets a good drive whenever weather’s good & I’m not working. Fantastic pic. Alps I presume? Where exactly. smile

Looks like Switzerland - just East of St Moritz on the Bernina pass.

At 13 years old, what repairs/replacement parts would expect to have to attend to regardless of mileage on a 997.1 i.e. degradation etc. of rubber components.?

It will depend a lot on how the car has been used; there are plenty of good buyers guides online for 997s which point out the weaker spots - condensers, cooling pipes, and (whisper it...) bore scoring, IMS etc.

In terms of general wear, I have recently bought a 997.2 that is 12 years old and has done 80k. It feels remarkably fresh to drive, and is still on all its original suspension and bushes according to the detailed history. I wouldn’t doubt the feel if it had only done 20k, and having driven a lot of much newer 911s (but not owned) it was one aspect I was a bit concerned about. I needn’t have worried.

In comparison I drove a 997.1 which was a couple of years older, had done 95k but had had a significant amount of the suspension parts replaced at 75k - all the dampers and a lot of bushes. It felt very tired in comparison.

In summary, there are key areas to check, however for the rest condition is everything as usual!

My .1 Turbo has been undercover since early November lockdown and as declared SORN I have no plans to bring her back out again until Feb, but my god I am so desperate to go for a drive. Such an awesome machine.

Just ordered a DSC module from 9E as i couldn’t resist buying something for the car over Xmas.

More 997.1 GT3 CS Spam... 5am blast to Wales, beauty of a day, weather cleared nicely and make for some exciting conditions.

Another 550 odd miles added, 11.5 hours in the bucket seat, I love this car to pieces...
