Every time I think about taking advantage of this market I go and drive it. Just experiencing that engine, even toodling along waiting for it to warm through I realise it's irreplaceable. It is SO special.
I think it has already been suggested on this thread but if it is the ultimate driving 997GT3 you want one can be made using a cooking version. Cash in the 4.0, replicate the suspension and chassis on a 3.8 then get the 3.8 lump rebuilt as a 535PS 4.3 litre (race proven), it will make your 4.0 seem tame isaldiri said:
An EU car will (or should) already have VAT paid in the country of origin and you just need to notify HMRC when it's brought over.
I tried to import a 512M earlier in the year. I would have had to pay VAT on that as it was coming from Aus. Anyway if its so cheap and you don't have to pay then you should buy it. There are a number of people who'd give you a profit. But I suspect it wouldn't be so simple. Nearly all cars are cheaper in the US, just look at CS' 360, they are still 100k sterling.

Mrdemon didn't buy the 4.0 in NZ after saying he would top my bid.
I guess he doesn't know what he's talking about.
Anyhow I am now enjoying the car.
I said no such thing !!! I guess he doesn't know what he's talking about.

You are absolutely correct, my mistake , i apologise it was another with a similar username.
That was me. Mouse and Demon easy to confuse My offer was good, and congratulations on buying the car, enjoy!
Be careful about the theory you dont have to pay VAT on import IF the car was originally German ie in the EU.
Check thoroughly because as the car is over three years old , it is( I believe) out of remit, and VAT will be charged by HMRC , as it is coming from outside EU------------ unless I am very much misinformed !!

You are not mistaken - as a rough guide :Check thoroughly because as the car is over three years old , it is( I believe) out of remit, and VAT will be charged by HMRC , as it is coming from outside EU------------ unless I am very much misinformed !!
2nd hand car made in the EU, bought in another EU country, imported in the UK - nothing to pay in terms of VAT or Duty
2nd hand car made in the EU, bought in Switzerland, imported in the UK - only 20% VAT payable on the invoice price upon registration when a Euro 1 certificate is produced, no Duty due
2nd hand car made in the EU, bought in another non-EU country - 10% import duty payable on the invoice price, then 20% VAT payable on the sum total of invoice price + 10% duty on the invoice price + shipping costs
JZM have just listed a black LHD drive on their website in the last hour.

The Mexico blue is a stunning car! However one might mix it up with a std gt3 3.8 with an RS spoiler fitted. IMVHO, every 4.0rs should have the decals left on. It makes up the whole look and image of the 4.0 ltd edition version! Imagine having a 993gt2 but removing its flared wheel arches!
Never liked the decals on the 4 litre - if I ever get my hands on one they would go instantly. But then I would only ever want one to drive it and would consider it a positive thing if it wasn't immediately apparent what it was. In the words of Roger Moore in the Cannonball Run - "Why Advertise". Especially when the whole thing is so profoundly unsubtle to begin with. This is inconvenient though, as the ones on the front PU are under the clear coat.
On the 3.8 I would leave the side decals, but the ones on the right wing and left hip would have to go.

I totally get going stealthy with an understated colour like black but when you order a colour like Mexico Blue it's so in your face you may as well go the whole hog! Sharkwerks "Gulf" coloured 3.8 which is light blue with orange decals looks the dogs danglies to me. leeGT2 said:
U haven't gone out of your way to advertise, Porsche have designed the car in that way with the decals. You are following its original lines...
Porsche put those on there for people who buy them for the purpose of showing them off to their mates so that they can look distinctive in the car park. Thankfully some people just want to drive them without being the centre of attention. Gassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
