2009 997.2 Gt3
2013 991.1 Gt3
2016 991.1 Gt3. Perhaps?

I think we can assume Gen 2 991 GT3 with various improvements and developments is on the way. Why wouldn't it. Porsche have a very successful marketing formula.

Not to mention it seems exceedingly likely that they are bringing the manual transmission back to the GT3. They've dropped multiple hints about this in the recent past. A typical marketing masterstroke by Porsche.

The ideal GT car buyer from Porsche's point of view reluctantly bought a 991.1 GT3 with PDK-S, switched to the GT4 for the manual transmission and will now buy a manual 991.2 GT3.

They may even launch the GT3 with PDK-S and reveal the manual after the 911 R hype has passed.

If the 991.2 GT3 is announced and will remain PDK only, will it as popular as the first gen, or do GT3 owners want a switch back to Manual? Surely we won't see the same silly season of £110k cars selling for £170k!!!!

I'm willing to place a gentleman's bet on this not being the case. There will not be a manual GT3 (not counting the R), certainly not in the 991 generation and likely not ever. Time will tell which of us is right wink

For me, and I thought the point of the car was the 'understated'. That is it's reason d'être - the pure, spoiler free rear end, but with those eternally beautiful GT3 centre locks, and a 4.0 (if the rumours are true). It is nothing more than a cynical parts bin special, but how special it shall be.

So it's basicly a 991 GTS with a magnesium roof and a 4ltr engine with 500 bhp, whats not to like other than the price, though I suspect if you are lucky enough to be offered a chance to pay £250k for your GTS +++ you won't ever loose any money on it.

I'm not sure those are the final production wheels. I agree though; it will be a big disappointment if they put 21" rubber on it.

Hopeful that they won't, but we'll know by Monday. (some already do...)

The marketing message is interesting.

Preuninger says that it is a road rather then track car, designed for fun driving. Fair enough, so they dump the alacantara and put in a more retro leather/houndstooth interior which is consistent with that message.

Yet, in the discussion about weight the point is made that they have no standard radio or air condition. This is much more of a track car statement.

How many people will spec a road car at this price and not add back the A/C and radio, Appletalk and so on?...so the weight decision made have to be slightly modified if the car adds these back..

It was the same story on the new Boxster Spyder for some reason

Well, after realizing the car was a lot cheaper than I thought it would be and barring a little laziness with the weight reduction pretty much my ideal sportscar ever, I contacted the OPC I bought my BGTS from as well as another OPC when I got a tip they might have a car available. No joy on both counts. The latter called me back 7 mins after my email was sent (which I thought was quite impressive to be fair) to say they had all been allocated a year or so ago. The chap from the other dealer who sold me my BGTS and knows I have an interest in the next GT3/4 apologized and said he would be unable to supply me with one, but to come back to him in the future if I needed him. I wrote back that the problem is he's unlikely to ever be allowed to sell me a car that I would want to buy from them!

Anyway, would have sold my fleet without a second thought to get an order in. At least I tried I guess.

"We listened to our customers...." Really? We must have said: "Please could you build this car in such limited quantities that customers that have supported you over many years and bought many cars, will have zero chance of getting one. When you do this, we will become so p*ssed off with the way Porsche repays that loyalty, we will go and buy McLarens instead"
