Well spotted, the seats and the door cards came from Sweden out of my friends GT2 RS and yes they are very rare.....

That explains a lot. I too had assumed they were genuine 997.2 folding buckets that had been re-trimmed.

I keep toying with the idea of getting my nomex covered buckets re-trimmed in leather and alcantara. Taking the engine out a re-pinning all the coolant hoses before I do any track days is a more pressing drain on already depleted funds. biggrin

I think those folding buckets are about the most comfortable and supportive seats I've ever used.

The point where the alcantara insert meets the leather seat back seemed to press on my spine and I had to slouch down to avoid it. I noticed it within 10 seconds of my test drive but assumed I was just in a bad position so ignored it. 18 months on and every day was the same frown No such problem with the light-weight ones I sat in at the Geneva show though

It does just go to show it's worth trying before you buy and, even then, everyone's different and a short test isn't always enough.

On the road, the folding buckets seemed, for me, better as they have a bit more shoulder room which I like. I'm 6' and not huge, but I had a colossal downhill mtb crash in the Alps a few years back. Aside from a lot of metalwork, they had to cut, then surgically re-attach me left pectoral minor to my shoulder. The narrower fixe- back buckets seem to push my shoulders forward and this re-attached muscle can spasm/tighten unless I make an effort to 'release' it. Curiously, the worst seats though for this I found were the sports seats in the 991 GTS's. Seating is very much an individual choice!

I'm hoping/guessing the fixed-backs in my car will work well on track...

Wow, now there is a nice x-ray with a hefty back story!

Yes seating and comfort is an issue because we are all of different height, weight and shape.

The go to seats such as the genuine Porsche fixed buckets are not for everyone in fact in reality only for a small minority if we look at usability and comfort if you are on the larger side. The genuine Porsche split buckets defiantly open up to a wider market of users being more usable as a daily featuring a wide back and lower side supports for easier access. But both have a price tag....

As the man said, try before you buy….. and go for a long journey.

I like the newer tilt bucket but it does sit higher than the fixed (CGT) type seat. The plus points are tilt and airbags obviously but for circuits i have sometimes removed the seat cushion to get more in than on if you know what i mean. Neither are anywhere near as nice as a Cobra Suzuka type seat though. Just depends on your priorities. Best all rounder is still the old 996 fixed bucket IMHO.

I reckon anyone much over 6' and, or 90kgs (sorry to mix metric with imperial, but that's just the measurements I know) may struggle with the fixed back buckets.

The real surprise for me was how uncomfortable I found the sports version of the standard seats. The folding buckets in the 991 GT3 and RS were far superior IMHO.

The issue imo with the fixed back cgt seats is they are too narrow around the shoulder for most people. And too bloody upright with no ability to adjust recline which is really annoying. The folding gt2 buckets are better in both respects but they sit a bit too high. The 918 style seat went too far in the other direction for me to the cgt seats and they are too damned wide to provide good support if you're not strapped in with harnesses. Bit tricky this bucket seat thing clearly!
