You can max it out and a few seconds in 5th... do you live in Germany!! In my manual GT3 you are heading into UK licence losing territory early into 3rd gear.... it’s a wonderful car but part of the problem is that at 6-9k revs which is the fun zone, it gets too fast for the public road far too quickly!!

Although you could say that about any relatively high revving rapid road car.

Beauty of the GT3 is that it has so much low down torque and it still sounds great at lower revs and speeds too.

no no no and no :-) with added no.

if you short shift a gt3 sell it :-) nothing happens below 5.5k revs !! and peak is torque is 6200rpm.

if you don't want this engine buy a 2.7 Cayman as that's about the performance you are seeing short shifting or buy a 911T which does have some torques at 4k.

Haha says the man who derides the GT4 for being too high geared and too fast for the road!

Just because the car revs to 9k doesn't mean you have to use top revs all the time for road driving....bet you don't.

My point was that unlike the gen 1, the gen 2 is far snappier at lower speeds and higher gears AND it also sounds good too at lower speeds. But you knew that anyway.

Done the Carrera T thanks ran one from new for 12 months sold last summer not a bad package either and they are rising in price atm as I said they would as not many around.

You would love it. We are hoping to have the TT Festival next June, they make the Ramsey road over the mountain to Douglas one way over the fortnight where you can use the racing line. Problem with that though is there are lots of motorcycle crashes which closes the road, I love to go out at 05.30 when it is quiet and do 4-5 runs, you pull off the course at Creg- Ny-Baa and head back to Ramsey. It's well-policed and they let you have fun, you just drive to your limits and enjoy the buzz it gives you.

Bonus as well is you get the Supercars and clubs from the UK coming over a couple of weeks before and after, its a great month. Porsche brought all their GT cars over a couple of years ago.

It's not the bedding in of them, that's been done properly. There's a run from the Bungalow to hailwood heights both with a turn around so you can do 10 runs consecutively and hit 130 if you wanted. I did it a couple of months ago and brought all the tramline workers out at the Bungalow taking pics or vids on their phones, the noise must have been sensational as they could see the whole run back and forth lol

Hailwood Heights down to Bungalow in distance.Keep clicking on the pic to make it bigger.

Done the PCGB IOM long weekend several times always a good weekend and the chance to open the car up without the risk of a speeding fine.
Must be great to be able to go for a proper blast whenever you want without worries. Is the driving sensible, a lot of car clubs come over I guess some are better than others. Do you get many accidents / fatalities ?

Hi

Yes, you have to be sensible. Police will pull you if you are not. Was coming down to the Bungalow in my BMCS flat and noticed Mr Plod coming away from tram station to the roadside , he wagged his finger then gave the thumbs up, to say ease it in.

Crashes in high-performance cars are very very rare.TT Festival sadly gets its fatalities with the bikes, you can get up to 12k bikes over for the 2 weeks with lots of continental riders who struggle with the left-hand side driving.

Then sometimes you get the nutter in a souped-up GTI and the likes who want to race, I don't bother and prefer a half-hour early in the mornings or take it onto some very quiet backroads.

Tried to enter the hill climb but to much hassle obtaining a licence.

yet again you don't understand gears vs speed like 95% people on the forum :-) with the "too fast for the road quote"

It's too slow for the gears, not too fast, that's the issue like the 996 and 997 GT3's.and hence the need for shorter ratio's.

I did not think it sounded very good hence the bypass pipe I fitted, the GT4 did not need it, all you hear is CUP2 road noise and stones hitting the arches !!

no I don't use 9k, but not in 5th at 4k either. I have a gearbox and a lever to put it in the right gear and power band when I choose.
but as these cars are not daily cars, that means I live above 5.5k revs 90% time. the fun happens at >6k so why would I be in the "wrong gear" ?
esp as you sate you DON'T use motorways !

I know people seem to want to be in 5th at 3k revs like the 718 GT4 noobies but I really don't get the need to change gear at 4k even 5 or 6k !!

snappy low down !!! try 600NM torques at 2.5k :-) , GT3 feels dead to me low down, although yes it does crawl a bit faster than the older cars at 4k but why you would ever test that is odd, let alone rave about it, to me it just reads "wrong gear " and I bought a manual to be in the right gear, not wait for a kick down of 3 gears !
The 991.2 engine needs working which means "driving it" no point having it other wise.

T's are dropping in price btw, but are selling at these "lower" prices very well.

The 991.2 GT3 feels snappier at lower speeds than most n.a. Porsche GTs from the last decade. Even the great man AP said this on the cars launch.

Yes use the gears and revs on the right drive/road that is clearly what the car is all about (hence my motorway comment) but to claim that you are constantly driving on the limit bouncing off the limiter consequently breaking speed limits etc and using the 7000 to 9000 rev bands for road use is far fetched.

What does the manual hit on redline in 3rd gear, am guessing around 110mph?

Sometimes this forum reminds me of when we played Top Trumps at Primary School! biggrin

These cars ARE too fast for the road IF you employ the full rev range through the gears. That much is obvious - unless you want to get yourself in serious trouble.

Having said that I think most of us probably have enjoyed 9k through the gears at least once on the road wink

The beauty of the GT3 is that it's very tactile and engaging at lower speeds too. Being 'snappy' from low revs in a high gear certainly helps.

Learn the art of driving slowly and enjoying it - even in a GT3! smile

Agreed, it's a sense of occasion at low speed as well. Missis don't like speed but she thinks the car is fab as well.

Top speed obviously limited by physics !

There’s a chart in there comparing all the GT cars if you’re interested. GT4 stands out...not in a good way !

I don’t think the widespread excitement is really there for the 992 GT3.

In answer to the question, even if this car isn’t easily available as a new build slot, I suspect people who really want one of these won’t need to wait long before there will be a decent choice on the second hand market and at a reasonable price.

Thanks a lot, brilliant info for redline chasers.
