May I be so bold as to ask what a ballpark price on a full suspension rebuild would be? Either buying the parts and doing it yourself, (excluding geo), or paying for a garage to do it?
Many thanks
I think CG charged about 650 for labour to rip out and replace and then their geo cost on top. When I researched it I couldn't get the parts cheaper and thought this was reasonable given the work involved. Many thanks

I think RPM have transitioned to tweaking the more modern 991 and 992 GT cars. I'd guess because these owners have deeper pockets.
This ^ There’s far more (and easier) profit in bolting on Manthey suspension conversions and JCR exhausts onto 991/992 GT3/3RS and charging £16k for fitting rear seats into a 991/992 GT3, rather than doing CSR conversions on 12-22 year old cars.I think they said they only ever planned to build 50 maximum, and I’m guessing they must have produced at least 30-35 of them ?
Ducktails can be bought from Design 911 (their own brand) or Getty in the States or 9xxTeile in Belgium.
All however will require some fettling to make them fit properly .

If that's to replace everything that's good I think. Their geo is then around another 200 right.
Yes that was to replace everything, I was surprised. I'd need to dig out the paperwork but I think their geo was more than 200, maybe 300?There was train strike, when I was supposed to be visiting, and CG re-jigged jobs to accomodate me and both Pete and Chris worked on my car, I was really grateful.

Non PASM for all the arms, dampers and mountings, keeping existing springs is around £2500 if doing it yourself if just using Bilstein B4.
Things like all the bolts, eccentric bolts etc., add another £200 odd, then all the nuts, washers, bolts, pads etc. to build new dampers are another £300 if using aftermarket versions.
I would do track rod ends as well, you know they are good then for a while, horrible doing all that work, getting the geo done and then hearing a noise a few months later. I just like to do it all and know it will be good until the wallet has recovered.
Thanks for the swift reply Ed Things like all the bolts, eccentric bolts etc., add another £200 odd, then all the nuts, washers, bolts, pads etc. to build new dampers are another £300 if using aftermarket versions.

Bloomin heck, knocking on £3000?
Ouch ! I should hope to get five years occasional use out of the job for that sort of money.

No, I meant all the arms, dampers the lot come to around £2500.
Part of that is £200 worth of bolts and fixings and another £300 of that is all the extras you need on all 4 dampers and springs.
You look at dampers for £1000 and think that is it, but then you have top mounts, spacers, bearings etc. which suddenly makes them £1300.
Spyder tuning do a control arm package. D911 do a strut ancillary packages at a fair price, but all the little bits do add up.
spyderperformance suspension refresh parts.
Design 911 front damper Overhaul kit
Then you need one for the rear too, and of course the dampers themselves.
But you should be able to do it all for under £2500.

I had a complete suspension rebuild on my 997.1 C2 (so no PASM) over two years.
Year one was coffin & tuning fork arms all round / upper control arms / rear toe arms / geometry. That was £2665 (but some parts needed to be cut off, and there was some other minor stuff).
Year two was shocks / springs / top mounts / bearings £2550 - so a whisker over £5215 for the whole job.
I’m looking at a spreadsheet on my laptop, not the actual invoice, so no more detail to hand!

That looks very expensive for what it is!It is fairly rare, but yes, it's expensive.

Do people think 997's are really going to go up that much? I am not so sure, there are loads of them compared to 993's and 964's. I reckon they'll remain 25-30k for a long long time.
I have a feeling the 997 was very common. Britain was booming just before the GFC so lots of money flowing around which meant the Porsche garage did well during this time. So 2005, 2006 and 2007 were boom years. When I look at Porsches for sale I seem to see more 996 C4S and then 997 cars for sale compared to the simpler narrow body 996.2 or the earlier 996.1 which is very rare. I remember seeing a property investor type driving around in his Pagani Zonda in 2006 then a couple of years later he had lost it all.Ed.Neumann said:

Thanks for this, its the next step for me.spyderperformance suspension refresh parts.
Few years / 10k miles ago I did all 4x dampers with mounts / bump stops on my C4S. Used Bilstein B4s and it came in at £2120, including labour from a specialist. This year I will probably complete the job by having everything on that Spyder list replaced. Leaning towards having it done by CG this time.
But first need to investigate that whiff of coolant I get very occasionally with the window rolled down...

Looks expensive to Me. It's just a C2S with aero kit and yellow paint. I dont see 39 grand there.
I agree, I'd get a low mileage 997.1 spend a bit on it and then do a wrap to get it yellowGassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
