Not quite looking, more wondering what to do with one.....
Every time I think about taking advantage of this market I go and drive it. Just experiencing that engine, even toodling along waiting for it to warm through I realise it's irreplaceable. It is SO special.

Putting to one side the discount, how do you propose getting around the VAT legitimately?

An EU car will (or should) already have VAT paid in the country of origin and you just need to notify HMRC when it's brought over.
I tried to import a 512M earlier in the year. I would have had to pay VAT on that as it was coming from Aus.

Anyway if its so cheap and you don't have to pay then you should buy it. There are a number of people who'd give you a profit. But I suspect it wouldn't be so simple. Nearly all cars are cheaper in the US, just look at CS' 360, they are still 100k sterling.

I've bought it and I can assure you as an existing 4.0 owner he didn't give it away - there aren't any deals on cars like that. For those suggesting that JZM are playing games, you're just plain wrong. They don't need to. People are waking up to Porsches as not only fantastic drivers cars but also 'sensible places' to park money.

That car is genuinely a one off. I can't believe, in this market, that it sat there. Anyway I couldn't have an idiot buy it and store it so it's now going in the garage and will keep the other one company. I'll use both. I don't know what the market will do and don't really care. Even if it halves it won't stay down there for long. I suspect it might go up.....its one of the best cars I've ever driven. Many less rewarding and less capable cars are fetching far more than 350 so it makes sense to me. Worst case is I now have an RS 8.0!

Oh and the decals will be going on it.

Without a doubt. I bought a 288 GTO 3y or 4y ago for 460k and it was crap to drive frankly. Made of gingerbread. It honestly felt homemade. Looked nice of course. The 4.0 and in fact any GT3/RS is the real deal. I think the 4.0 is a bargain by comparison. If you haven't been lucky enough to go in one, then do whatever it takes. Its awesome. Ever since my first drive at PEC Silverstone I knew I'd made a big error turning down my build a lot. Still paying for it now.

This wasn't about values per se. Its just a highly desirable object. Kind of one of those 'I have to' purchases. I'm sure someone will feel the same in the future if it ever comes back to the market which will only happen if I cock up a property deal or two.....

Maybe I'll hold off on the decals. As much as I'd like to make money on it honestly I hope the market at least cools so we can all get back to buying what we want, based on driving pleasure alone. On that basis I'm happy. Sorry if that sounds glib but on don't believe a 4.0 belongs to anyone who doesn't know just what a special car they have.

I hear you're the founding member! We should get a tie made. Haha.

Thanks for the kind words people. If you see me at a track and you've recently renewed your life insurance come and join me for a passenger lap! That goes for all of you interested in 4.0's!

Rest assured you are not alone......I've not been able to focus today and I've been testing at Knockhill. So I've got it bad too.

Sorry and yes down for the 991 RS but I'm not sure it'll be for me. I just don't get on with paddles for road work. It's too easy to banzai fast. This argument has been done to death though...in short it'll be an awesome car and I don't want to miss out. Can't wait to see it actually!

What do you drive?

So are you.....anyone who buys and loves a 996RS has my respect. I'll never forget last Nov when I took mine out for a greasy road blast, the wet roundabouts were too tempting. I had a white can man egging me on, him fist pumping out the window as I did a couple of laps of honour was a welcome change from the usual reaction!

Yours looks awesome with the blue decal....

Genuinely they don't give out RS badges for free at Stuttgart.....all of them are incredibly special. If that wasn't the case then none of us would see the need for more than one....

Its a stunning car Stefan! What are you having done to the 996?

I think you'll be blown away by the 4.0, I was and I'm not easily excited....a virtue if being spoilt and also years of trying to talk myself out of buying cars. With the 4.0 I couldn't find any reasons. Except its too fast and too fast expensive.

2010 and 140ish new I think.

RHD are 350 and LHD are 250 upwards I'd say.

Basic price yes. With options on this car I suspect it was quite a bit more. Not really the point though. How many buyers of 2.7s, 993, 964 RS' etc worry about the list price.

At the end of the day. Each to his own.

A 275 GTB was 150k in the early 2000's. They are now over 2m. If I still owned one of them I'd be more worried about 1.9m in appreciation than I would about 200k.

Anyway. I didn't look at it like that particularly. More just that's bloody gorgeous and really special to drive. Done.

Nothing unique about that. Plus not relevant as It wasn't NEW in 2000's. The uniqueness of the enormous 4.0RS price move is the fact that is from NEW.
Well its not your problem is it. You're not a 4.0 owner so arguably your opinion on price isn't relevant either. Of course you could give me 400k and change all that.....

I believe dealers offered them to good customers first, I was offered one at the time but had just sold my 3.8 RS and lost 20k. Nor did I know at the time that it would be anything like as great as it is.

Pure speculation? The first one was that at 220. This was an awful lot more, I'd be a brave man to be buying now purely on the basis of making more money.

There are easier and surer ways of making money. As for making an ultimate 911, its a good idea. I nearly did that. But now a 3.8 RS is 150, engine upgrade from Manthey 60k and various other upgrades another 20k say so you are at 230k. I would rather pay more and have the real thing. But you do what you think makes sense....personally I am just enjoying myself.

I'm sorry. I'm not looking for a spat. Christ knows ther are easier to come by than sensibly priced cars these days. I can really tell you why I bought it. It's just a lovely car and I do love a special Porsche. I'm proud to own it actually. Same with the black one. I sometimes go out to the garage at night to go and see it. Sad but true. They aren't beautiful but they are awesome.
