I have certainly experienced white smoke on start up, and occasionally on full throttle before fully warmed up, and some on-line research does indeed suggest this is due to the pooling oil reason you were given.
However, if it is truly using 1l/1000miles of oil that would be a cause for concern. Like some of the other contributors my previous Porsches (and I've had 5) hardly used any oil

I have had 6 x 911's the only one that used to smoke in an identical manner to which your one does was my 996 Turbo S.
I took it back to the dealer and they explained that the puff of smoke on start-up was caused by a pool of oil accumulating by the valves at startup time and that it was perfectly normal.
I have to say, I never experienced any issues with the car at all other than consumption of oil at around 1l every 1000 miles or so.
Good Luck

+1 nothing to worry about at all.I took it back to the dealer and they explained that the puff of smoke on start-up was caused by a pool of oil accumulating by the valves at startup time and that it was perfectly normal.

I've had a bunch of new Porsches and only one Cayman ever did this.
As many have said, not uncommon for the flat-6, but I've never heard of anyone getting it fixed.
It did bother me and always picked the worst moments to do it, much to the amusement of others
If you can't live with it, then maybe twist their arms for a deal and move on.

thanks for the words guys...
ill leave you with the last video that truly shows how bad this issue is. The is a car that has been warmed up run for 10 miles and left for 10 minutes before starting, ambient temperature of 12 degrees, so not an atmospheric issue...Its truly awful...

Id be asking to return a car like that, shouldn't be using that much oil or producing that much white/blue smoke on startup, somethings wrong!
Agreed, if they give you the they all do that sir line, get them to start some of the ones they have on site and see what smoke they all produce.Easy way to either prove your case or put your mind at ease.
It's just blown smoke regularly on the trip from Preston to Sheffield. Oil warning light chimed up again (less than 500 miles since its last fill up). I'd suggest it's goosed. Going to be an interesting meeting with them. My only issue is that it's on PCP as I wanted to free some cash up. Is this a dealer issue or VW financial services?
They've had one chance to fix it - which they didn't - and subsequent follow up was "they all do this ". I checked the features in the brochure and nowhere did it advertise a thirst for oil, smoke screen at will or the embarrassment of driving it.
Cheers

You should have even greater power with a finance company in play, rather than less. Your consumer rights aren't lessened as you've taken some form of personal funding. They've had one chance to fix it - which they didn't - and subsequent follow up was "they all do this ". Maybe I am colour blind but that smoke looks grey or white to me and not the dark blue/black expected when burning oil.
What is the coolant level like? Is the mpg okay?

Even though it is a new car, you could get a pre-MOT emissions test done on it and see if it passes, if not the OPC/Porsche can't really argue with that one.

just an update to close this off. Took the vehicle back to sheffield on monday. Within the first 5 miles it had produced plenty of blue smoke at a roundabout and some erratic idling. Stopped for a ciggie on the snake pass and started the car to yet more smoke. Car delivered to the dealer with the affirmation that i had lost all faith in the product and i wasn't prepared to drive this vehicle again, and it was up to them how they resolved the situation by the end of the day. The upshot of it is that they confirmed that one of the turbos had given up the ghost and they were instructed by porsche to replace that and a raft of other items to bring it back to working order. This is a little concerning on a car with 11k on it.
With the message clear that i wasn't taking this car back, the dealer worked hard to secure the right deal for me to retain me as a customer. A deal was done and I'm delighted to say that i picked this up yesterday...
This was a cancelled customer order as he had been offered a GTS build slot and didn't want to lose that. At first i was concerned with the colour, but 24 hours later I'm delighted with it. I honestly believe that it will become a collectors colour in years to come. The reaction from people is amazing; so much more than my white one. OPC Sheffield did a great job from a customer service point of view and i can't wait to enjoy many miles in the car.

TBF turbos can and do fail and, as has been discussed, the warm-up and warm-down, or lack of, can be a significant contributory factor. It's difficult to know and, therefore, I think rejecting the car was the right thing for you to do.PLus, on the upside, the new motor looks the dog's whotsits! Congratulations and, I guess, kudos to the OPC.
