I think you're mad! Particularly now your car's engine has a 10-year warranty!

What do you think you'll get from the 991.2 GT3 than you don't get from the 991.1 GT3?
This.

I came from a GT3 RS in UV, won't go into it... the GT3 I do enjoy, don't get me wrong. But I miss the smaller steering wheel on the RS, and also the new information system. i really need to drive a GTS as you say Kev, it may be a good stop gap, plus the st weather months coming, I'll use it more that I would the GT3, which I would just tuck up in the garage over autumn and winter.

OR.... I keep an eye out for a 2105 Turbo S!!!

I recently spent two days at the PEC driving back to back a 991.2GTS coupe and a 991.1GT3 and i was surprised how different they were.I've owned a new 991.2 GTS PDK coupe for a couple of months and i can guarantee you as an all round sporty roadcar you will find none more capable as the engine feels just like a very torquey nasp with no discernible lag and instant uge throughout the rev range.
When driving the 991.1GT3 at Silverstone what impressed me most was the spine tingling top end no turbo can hope to match however compared to the GTS i noticed a lack of torque in the low-mid range which makes the GTS a faster road car imo without being too anti social. I hated the GT3's larger steering wheel compared to the GTS's smaller 360mm but the GT3 was much more exciting on the track but the the GTS is a much better roadcar.
I'm lucky because i have a new GT3 PDK coming in October which i've yet to drive but i expect to address the two criticisms i had of the GT3.1 which was lack of torque and steering wheel size however i can't imagine any car ever improving on its top end and certainly no turbo.
Imv in your situation i would keep the GT3 especially with Porsche's new global 10yr 120k mile engine warranty however the new GTS would make a good alternative as i feel the turbo s is just too fast for the road and the lag and lack of noise would be a letdown after the GT3..

Taffy, thank you. this was just what i was looking for! like you i do love the experience/spine tingling you get with a GT3, i cant see me using it over the winter, as i respect the car too much to take it out in the st weather, whereas GTS would suit for that purpose if i felt the urge to take it out on a winters day.

Taffy, are the dealers really telling me the truth in regards to needing to strike up a buying history? I do really get on well with my salesman, we speak over Mobil phone each week, so do i just bite the bullet and keep with now buying direct from Porsche to be granted the Halo cars in the future??

you seem really lost tbh
what's your previous buying history with Porsche?
which halo cars are you specifically looking to get?
if you really want to ensure that you'll be getting an RS/GT2/4.0 type car then just owning 1 911 at a time isn't going to cut it

For me the GT range is where i want to be at, loved the RS but the GT3 i found you could drive under the radar, whereas the .1RS was a special car which i would only drive on odd occasions.

So you saying you really need to buy a fleet of Porsche's to gain access to the VIP club!

In my case i got an allocation on a GT4 and i also have a new GT3 coming in October neither constitute gaining brownie points at an OPC to secure a halo model.I can't divulge how many GT3.2 allocations my OPC had just to say it is in the lower range of the figures mentioned in previous recent posts and am very grateful for one.
In the last two months i have bought two new Porsches(a new GTS and a new Panamera 4e hybrid) at a cost of £201k on top of my existing Cayenne e-hybrid so i currently run three Porsches which cost me £275k in total. This is excluding the other new Porsches i've bought from the same OPC in the last few years all of which have been p/x ed back to them.My OPC have always been 100% honest with me on how they allocate halo cars and tbt i feel as i deserve them based on my Porsche buying/selling history with them on top of giving them my word i have no intention of flipping as i am a true Porsche enthusiast.
Basically its a game you have to play where they set the rules and based on mutual trust..

Cormeist, I went with the Turbo S. It has not got the sound of the GT3 but so quick and comfortable. Long euro drives with roof down are what I'm looking for, even touring around the UK is not something I'd want to do in a GT3.
After I've had a play for a year or two in the TTs then maybe....

Just took a GTS out for a test drive.. to say I'm impressed is an understatement! Porsche have really hit the sweet spot for sure with this model.! So I'm progressing with the GTS order, with a view also of ordering a Macan for the wife! Totting up those brownie points now! Ah also guys I have an PEC morning next week in a GTS, so that should be real fun!

have fun speccing it - GTS is a great looking car - I did spec one once on the configurator and even called my OPC, but then bottled it

I can honestly say in that the GTS is faster on the road then my GT3, was so impressed, and NOW am looking forward to the arrival of the car.

My Spec is: graphite blue, CCB's, glass sunroof, GTS interior in rhodium silver, tinted sides and rear, 20mm suspension, lift, RWS. It's a really nice look what with the carbon brakes.

Good decision and the graphite looks killer in the GTS with black rims..I initially specced PCCBs on mine but bottled it last minute as mine as it turned out is only going to be with me until october when my GT3 arrives. If i was able to afford to i would keep it to run alongside my GT3 and will miss it as it is without doubt the best car i've ever driven.

That's would be best of both worlds mate! Have to say, the GTS makes the .1GT3 seem slightly pointless if I'm frank. My guess is, .2GT3 will become also the sweet spot with the 4.0 low torque.

I think the GTS 991.2 is the better choice. ...

however 2015 991.1 Turbo S having lost the bulk of its deprecation, would be a better proposition than a specced up GTS. A europipe exhaust would sort the sound - when I had a europipe on mine it sounded much better than the new turboed 911s. The added bonus is I still got £2k for it after four years use.
