FFS, must I do EVERYTHING for you ?? rolleyes

Have a read of this from page one :

https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-gt3rs-and-911r...

When you get to page five, you'll see these two images (and don't just go straight to page five you horrible little man you ('cause they'll be a test once you report back to say "I get it") Do I make myself clear ? smile

1. Is the cam lobe (round whirly thing with bumps on it that pushes on the cam follower (2) (or finger) f*cking Yanks ....

2 Cam follower, does what is says on the tin, follows the cam and transfers it's bumpy motion onto the end of the valve stem to open and close it.

These look to have some wear on the "pad" that bears on the cam lobe.

3. Hydraulic tappet (or if you like McDonalds, think Trump should be president and think drinking a gallon of Pepsi with your breakfast is in any way acceptable, you'll call it a lifter) Relies on oil pressure (generated by the engine) to allow the valve clearances to vary as the engine heats up. Has no place in an engine that revs to 9000 rpm, but cuts down down on maintenance bills by removing the need for routine valve clearance checks and adjustment.

Don't say I don't ever anything for you smash
Thanks H - you know you're my technical go to PH'r - I confess though I'm no the wiser - other than realising it's just an American version of a technical term that I don't get ; I guess to really "get it" I'd need to understand what all the other things mean and how it all fits together - in truth I really shouldn't have asked - I just look at the thread pictures and think the engine in bits looks really shiny and I love the way the blue colour contrasts with all that bare metal : I guess I should just stick to polishing - my brain just doesn't work this way : I much prefer to think there are magic pixies in there on a treadmill - surely this is what's happening ???

Walks off muttering something about never ever going to get it , looking sad and pathetic and feeling really thick and un manly ........ !

I bought my 991.1 GT3 a year ago after weighing up the pros and cons. I'm obviously very pleased by this news.

I have spoken to the original owner who kindly got in touch and he sold it because of the concerns that surfaced about this issue. I do feel sorry for people that have sold a fantastic car though.

Regards
Fred

This should increase the confidence in 991.1 GT3 and lead to increased demand which may see less demand for the 'older' 997 GT3 with a softening of prices (hopefully)! wink

That's actually not a daft comment. Watch the PTS JZM car sell now - with the rumoured huge PTS price hike and the now 10yr transferable warranty things have just got much better for the flammable .1
On that specific point - isn't there now a standard colour on the .2 that is very similar to the PTS on this .1? Can't remember the name but if this is the case then can't see why people will suddenly pay a bigger premium for this PTS version of the .1?

Is £136k strong, fair or cheap money for this car without PCCBs and the .2 deliveries areinf the corner?

The post on Rennlist says all markets:

https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-gt3rs-and-911r...

"Official Announcement from Porsche
Porsche will extend the warranty on the engine of all 991.1 generation GT3 vehicles in all markets with respect to failure modes related to this issue. ..."
Has anyone actually checked with their local country Porsche organisation (outside of the US)?

The Americans do tend to use a somewhat parochial reference to "all markets" as meaning every region of the USA, as opposed to anything outside their own shores.

Exactly - at least someone else gets it & as you say it's really simple ; the more pixies you have, the faster it goes - be carefull though - always make sure you buy cars that are powered by naturally aspirated pixies - they give a far more linear power delivery than those horrid fake Turbo charged ones (at least I get this bit!) smile

The colour on the current car is Miami Blue....it's a bit of a marmite colour and nowhere near as popular as Riviera Blue...if Riviera was available on the .2 I reckon you'd see 30% of cars ordered in it!

JZM had a similar car in maybe April or May priced at £135k which sold in a day or so...can't remember if it had PCCB's but for a Clubsport car if you want to track it PCCB's aren't the default option.

Given the warranty news you'd expect this car to sell quickly but cars are definitely not moving as quickly as they were. As JZM said in their monthly sales report recently cars like 997.2 GT3's aren't selling as quickly as they were in Q1.

Precisely my thoughts JC ..... The Yanks do seem to get "special treatment", possibly on account of their more litigious nature...

I believe its global. If its not I'm sure Porsche will move to put it right after Road and Track have published it
