That would make me wonder why you'd have one really. I've done 1500 miles in the last 4 weeks in mine biggrin

Agreed. Interestingly, I found with my last GT car (996RS) a few years ago that when I drove it a lot I loved it and was completely at one with it. Then when my circs changed and it only went out occasionally, I didn't gell with it at all. But then I'm weird!

Seeing as you were looking at a comfort spec at Simon's....what about the black one at 911 Virgin?

to be honest im a bit loathe to get one from a dealer and to break a lifelong tradition of always buying privately

As dealers go, you can't go wrong with 911Virgin! I've not bought through them yet, but I've had a few chats with Tom to alleviate any concerns and their reputation on here is second to none!

That's a shame but not surprised....GT3s don't hang around long at 911Virgin.

Lusso Prestige have a lovely lovely low mileage clubsport. I know the car and have driven it before (it is not mine though). Granted it is in a different price bracket but a better setup 997 I have not driven.

It is sort of fashionable among us 996 obsessives to poo poo the later cars but I must admit after driving this car it made me do a double take. Was an eye opener.

For 5k more you can get a .2

Nice one Bert. Which car did you go for in the end?

I've only managed half of that mileage in a similar time frame, but in my defence the car spent the best part of a week away being corner balanced/set up. And then there's my salt phobia to contend with...

Can't wait for some dry warm tarmac.

I'm in the mega mile clubsport. The weather looks like it's getting worse so it'll go away for the duration until oulton now I reckon.

I know, that's why I said it doesn't have ceramics... smile

Ceramics are an expensive liability. Certainly not worth any premium on a used gen 1 car
The OP hasn't stated what his intended usage will be, if he wants the car primarily as a road car, I'd respectfully suggest that PCCBs aren't an "expensive liablity", on the contrary, they're a worthwhile addition to any GT3/2/RS.

The lusso car is on steels, ask yourself why.
I've no need to ask myself anything (other than why your response to my brief post was so overly aggressive in its tone)

wink
I want actually asking “you” why or responding directly to yourself there Mr Diff. It was a rhetorical question to anyone who may be reading the thread but primarily the OP. I can have an opinion too I hope.

wink
The act of quoting someone's post would tend to indicate your response is directed towards them smile
Seemingly not in this case smile
And yes, of course you can have an opinion, I wasn’t suggesting otherwise. And as the great J Clarkson often says, you’re wrong, but it is nonetheless still your opinion smile
I jest btw biggrin

Did you guys see the white, 31k mile 997.2 CS that sold at Guildford OPC after they dropped it down to c. £95?

Seemed fair value to me with two years warranty, a major service pre collection and a new steering wheel....seemed like worry free motoring. The only thing I wanted in addition was axle left which it was missing.

I've got one eye out too....just trying to work out the right storage solution as I'm in London.

Looked a great car for the money, £95k with a two year Porsche warranty. Compared to others someone’s just saved themselves around £25k. Goes to show if a car is priced correctly it will draw interest.

Agreed, they had it up for quite a while at £99k and no interest, then flew at £95k once dropped.

Where do we think the 997 buyers market is? How about say a 30k mile, comfort car?

997.1 c.£65k private, c.£70k dealer (c.£10k premium for CS)
997.2 c.£80k private, c.£90k dealer (c.£10k premium for CS)

Views?

Was on the phone to a dealer this morning, he was saying that the large spreads we are seeing on cars like this today is down to the fact that some sellers are holding onto prior acquisition values/sales prices (privately or via SOR).

Should just be a matter of time until this washes through. I am finding some of the best value cars at OPCs (same with some Ferrari main dealers too) who are being more realistic with the market.

I think the OPC you spoke to is spot on.

I posted below on the 20th January, I actually mentioned the £95k car

Here's another 2 examples of how unrealistic pricing is at the moment.

Car 1 997 gt3 Gen 2 CS for sale at an OPC, which is most likely there stock and will come with a years manufactures warranty for £94,935

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Car 2997 gt3 Gen 2 CS for sale at an independent, which is most likley on SOR at £112,500

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

That's one hell of a difference in price IMO and there's also two other CS cars which are up for close to 120k, the one has been up forever.

I personally think this spread in the current prices is due to unrealistic SOR expectations, the dealer can basically afford to list it at what ever the seller thinks its worth. If it sells the seller needs to cover the costs of any work which is required and any drop in price if an offer is made, which ever way the dealer still takes his 5K SOR commission.

Another thing to remember now the market is changing is how much finance is against some of these cars on SOR, you could be shocked on the level of borrowing there is against them. I certainly was when I asked if a certain car had finance on it, they would of been lucky to get the trade bid to clear the finance!

Safest bet is the new 718 GT4 to your spec IMO, if i like the look of it and it comes with either a 3.8 NA or 4.0 NA I will ask if I can order one at the time and move on one of my other cars. I've got a feeling it will end up being the last NA Porsche GT car.

I personally think some of the asking prices of 997.1 gt3 cars is a disaster waiting to happen if you buy at these hyped asking prices.
