How’s the (re-)build going?
Must be nearly there now?
Hi KevMust be nearly there now?
I have been holding back posting pictures as waiting for a next milestone but I think I can post some soon. I am heading up to the workshop to check tomorrow morning actually.
The lightweight carpet is in, roll cage is painted and waiting to go in, seatbelts have been done in green, dashboard and interior is done and waiting to go in and roof lining also redone with a nice contrast stitch added. Oh and I also took the opportunity to tidy up some more clutter and deleted all the map lights, sun visors etc and very happy with how that has turned out. I don't think the polycarbonate windows are in yet though.
I will take some photos tomorrow and see if any other progress.
Thanks for asking.
Best
Peter
Hi Peter,
Look forward to seeing the pics as sounds like it will look awesome.
I think that you have done it so well that you have added value rather than tacky/cheap mods that actually de-value a car.
Interesting to see that you have deleted the sun visors and would have thought they would have been quite handy where you are?

Actually I have found their deletion more of a problem with the low winter sun in the UK! Interesting to see that you have deleted the sun visors and would have thought they would have been quite handy where you are?

Any updates / pictures of latest works?
Ian
Hi Ian, sorry for the slow reply. I finally managed to get some pictures of the progress to date. Actually progress has been slowed by a few things: Ian
We are installing new sensors to monitor brake fluid temp, transmission temp, air fuel ratio mix and back ups for oil and water temp/pressure and so had to wait for these to arrive so we could run the wiring before reinstalling the interior. They will then display digitally via the stereo head unit and flash red if exceed a preset range.
Also the green seat belt colour was way off so had to reorder but that has now arrived and installed - still not perfect but the closest we can find for now.
The duck tail is back in the body shop being cut and completely reworked to relocate the cooling vents and fan so aligned to the Mezger engine (ducktail was off a Carrera). Quite a big job and a bit of an oversight on my part. Oh well nothing like paying twice for a spray job : )
Roll cage and dashboard are now in. The Cargraphic lightweight carpet also although not a perfect fit and we did need to modify in places to close gaps etc. Now done it is say 90% perfect which is good enough since I care more about the weight saving and was even prepared to go for no carpet at one stage. When the seats are back in will look 95%.

Stumbled on this thread and signed up on this forum just to congratulate you on this build.
The attention to detail is just crazy, love everything you have done so far. The paint job looks fantastic and everything ties in real well.
Was at yas marina 2 days back and saw a maroon turbo with getech stickers. Looks like the shop does a lot of Porsche work.

Thank you cy00 for the kind words. And Cheib also. Its been great fun and yes we have literally planned and debated every step of the way over and over. Great you are also in the UAE please do come over and say hi next time. I won't be ready for the track evening this coming Monday but should be good for the next one after that, probably end of March or early April. Yes the red 997 Turbo belongs to the owner of GeTech actually. I have been a customer there for a couple years now and it is fair to say he has become a good friend over that time. Porsche (especially 997 and 996) are their core market but they do also work on other makes. There is another very nice 997 Carrera C2 they have had for the past several months doing a full makeover so I will take some pics and post them up soon.
Today was time for a job we have been putting off for ages.... cutting electric window switch holes into beautiful new shiny carbon fibre door cards that were clearly not intended for such.

Looking good - you're keeping my Porsche enthusiasm going whilst mine is in the garage due to the cold and snow in the UK!
Ian
I know the feeling all too well. Will hopefully enjoy mine for a couple of months before also storing away in the A/C for the boiling hot summer days here.... Ian
