Wow ... adjustable suspension and diff from inside the cabin ... real time to your liking !

What a great learning device smile
Indeed Chris! But surely the greatest take away from the launch was the downforce number it generates at 285 kmh, 860kg - that is like having 10 big blokes sat on the car. Mind blowing for a road car.

Obviously that number will diminish at more sane speeds but even so, it will be an epic corner-hound.

As said elsewhere in this thread, one would have to be looking way past the corner to ensure the line was clear before committing with anything like real conviction.

Have another rofl

More nonsense from our resident spammer, Julian.

Re the RS, I think it looks magnificently purposeful. Bravo Porsche and can’t wait to see them out on track.

Well and that's the rather curious thing - I'd love to know how or why 'DRS' as the car is supposed to have produces more downforce relative to square of speed at 285 km/h than at 200 km/h. Usually it's supposed to be ahem 'drag reduction system' not 'drag increase system'......

Surely that quoted downforce is without DRS activated?!

All those fancy active aero elements that are supposed to be continously adjustable etc should already mean reduced drag/downforce as speed increases without use of a DRS button to achieve that I'd have assumed......and certainly not increasing downforce relative to speed anyway.

It’s epic, but I’ll stick with GT4RS and £50k change I think (?) white/red like 997 RS is what I’d go for

Isn’t the point that some times you will want downforce and at other times you won’t?

With an ordinary, 'passive' wing or spoiler, the downforce builds with speed. Always.

This is what really mashed my swede, the first time I drove a single seat racer with aero (on of those Palmer Sport things with the 3 litre Jag V6, at Bedford autodrome). In fast corners, the grip built with speed because of the increasing downforce.

As I understood it, DRS will be useful to reduce the aero on straights.

Of course but I'm saying that at very high speeds given downforce increases at the square of speed you have a lot more of it (plus drag) that you aren't or can't really use. Or the increase in drag is such that your net benefit of say 100kg downforce vs much more drag at 250+km/h (where there won't be any corners short of the just after the bridge at the ring that can be taken at that speed) is much reduced. For example the 992rs has 409kg df at 200 km/h. I'd have initially expected maybe 700kg or less downforce at 285 precisely due to said active bits that would be reducing drag as it's a whole heap of downforce anyway.

P.S funny thing is i used to do quite a few of the palmersport days and the drivers always used to tell me the single seater had v v little downforce and it was the lp thingy with the instructor at the same track that actually did have meaningful downforce. Can see why it might have been the case to have a v light single seater where drivers of uncertain ability are out there on their own without having any of them trying to rely on aero grip was thought sensible i have to admit.....

Purely out of sheer curiosity I specced one last night with Weissach pack identical to my 991RS WP and it was £40k more dosh. The 992 version is physically bigger, heavier(40Kg inc the Lithium battery in mine)and much uglier(subjective I know).
All the aero parts seem way OTT and too complex for my feeble brain to comprehend and the plethora of steering wheel buttons is distracting to say the least.
Would still take one if my OPC offered it but would not play silly games for one. The OPCs VIP flippers won't care about any of the above as they are just speculators and not car enthusiasts.
