Just reading this months Evo and there's a comment that really annoys me where AP says, 'The 911R is a car we've built for the purists' .... Yes but you're building only 991 of the sodding things... I am one of those purists. You're hardly making it accessible. What annoys me is that in the past 6 months I've bought 2 new top end Porsches and I can't have one... Allocating 1 per dealer for the UK is just throwing sand in the face of its customers.

Two cars in 6 months won't get you anywhere near a 911R. There are people that have 918s and have bought 1 or 2 other new cars per year for the last 10 that haven't got one. I personally wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure the R is a cracking drive but so is a 996 GT3, 997 GT3 or even a Boxster Spyder. I was pretty underwhelmed by the R at Geneva and I agree with you that the "for the purists" rubbish that's being wheeled out is annoying and patronising but it seems people are lapping it up!

Agreed. In the last 18 months I've bought a Carrera GT, 991 Carrera S, 991 RS, GT4 and Boxster Spyder, all of which I still have and drive, and a 991 GT3 that I sold via my OPC when the RS arrived. I didn't get an R. I guess the manual gen 2 GT3 will be better though.

To be fair you have bought cars which have all gone up in value bar the 991 s. Buy turbo s of all models up to the value of your spend in the same period and you probably would have got one.

Was the CGT purchased from the same dealer?

Sounds like you bought a 991and the 991GT3, which you converted to the 991RS ( good you did not try to sell the 991 GT3 fur profit independently) .

To be then allocated a GT4 and the Spyder is super fortunate ( some will say you have been favoured)

The 991R - unlucky, but fair it seems.

What does residuals have to do with that. The OPC is still making a nice margin regardless of residuals. You could even argue, that the harder the sell come 2nd time the larger the ask/bid of the OPC and hence even bigger margins.

If you really want to make the OPC money you buy all the hyped up "premium cars" from the OPC and then sell it back to them at list so that they keep the profits going on the same stock. Buying a keeping them is for the enthusiast but the "flipper" is much more profitable for them.

They can sell GT models all day long. panemera, cayenne, macan and 911 TurboS models sell but not in big numbers. therefore if every 12 months you trade in for new ones you help their figures on premium non GT models which ultimately help the opc get bigger allocation of GT and limited production cars. i was told that 911r dealer allocations are based on which opcs had the highest 991 911 sales. nothing to do with how many 918s/GTs they've sold.
i know of somebody who has been allocated a 911r not based on the GT models he has bought but for the fact he buys turbo/turbo s in every model and returns to the opc for new ones every 18 months or so.

Yup , that's why my 997 4.0 Comes with Jaffa cake/sandwich holder spec

Mine has the sat nav from the factory but I bought the jaffa cake shelf afterwards so I can remove the sat nav when it gets (even more) out of date. £90 or so for a plastic shelf but in the grand scheme...

Got to check it out at NYIAS last week (and interviewed Andreas P, which was pretty cool). Amazing looking car—the 911 owners are in for a treat!

Thanks. Plenty on here with bigger garages than me who are an inspiration to keep working hard but always to find time to enjoy what you have

Isn't that the point though? Anyone who was lucky enough to get a 991 RS, wasn't offered an R to give those that missed out on the RS a chance. I'm sure it was a very hard day for the OPC's having to let down a lot of good customers.

Sure - as I said they had to do it somehow. Just a bit annoying they did it this way. A much better way would have been to allocate the R to anybody with my name smile

Not to worry, just another first world problem after all!

Received my invitation to Gaydon today to spec my GT8. Have to say spending your money with Aston Martin is a very enjoyable experience. Their customer service even for somebody who has never bought an new Aston before is excellent. Beats dealing with the Porsche pr**ks.

Would have loved a R, but after this experience Porsche can shove them up their aRse!
