997 GTS - Hexagon
Discussion
Love all of spec and price discussions. My views on a couple of areas.
The most unique things about the 7GTS are the most important,
- the way it drives (handling)
- A little extra power
- wide body looks with RWD and CLs
- Alcantara (again just because it is unique)
These are the things that made the GTS stand out when new and for me still the most important thing to me now. The manual vs PDK thing is interesting and i get the argument for both. My preference is for manual as the car is a driving toy so I want to control as much as possible and be challenged by the car to get it right, while still making it comfortable and usable.
I am trying not to think about the price thing too much as the risk as others have said is that you don't use the car as you don't want to hurt the value. The bottom line for me is that i have owned so many highish value cars (Pork and non Pork) that i have lost a ton of cash on but enjoyed mostly every minute and used them to the max. What the GTS gives me now is a car I can continue to use to the max, with a bonus of knowing that I will (currently) only be losing a little value as opposed to losing a lot. If the prices suddenly tumble it actually means that I will be back to the position I thought I would be in when I bought the car, so no bother there!
I can tell you that I bought an old BMW E93 330i cheap as chips and it's a great feeling never having to think about whether to take it out of the garage in any weather and park it anywhere. Means you enjoy the usage even more. I don't feel quite like that about my GTS as it's super clean and I want it to stay that way, but at the same time, I never want to be afraid to use it!

This is so true, many years ago I have an S2000 that I used to park anywhere and use in all conditions and as a result I enjoyed the heck out of it.Its nice to have a special car but there is no doubt that some of the enjoyment is lost especially if its increasing in value. Maybe I should buy another heap to run on the side!
Just looking at 997 GTS' for sale and there is basically nothing! With so few about theres no doubt that they'll stay strong and even keep going up.

Is that from Porsche?
I was unaware but recently informed on here that there is an update, pretty sure from Porsche but I might be wrong. I was criticising the older PDK at the time for being unexciting after owning a Cayman R with a PDK that ruined my experience.I was then made aware of a software upgrade.
Maybe someone else can shine more light on this? The difference between the old PDK and the newer version in my GTS is night and day.

Exact same position mate. My E92 M3 was a daily but the GTS I have kept as a toy. Daily commute involves traffic and no enjoyment sitting in traffic with a GTS. Ended up buying a 2012 JCW which I can park anywhere and don't care. My GTS is a toy and when it comes out I enjoy it more as its not my daily.
I've read comments from people a few times saying the 997 GTS isn't special enough for a weekend car. Most of those people drive a GT4/3 or Spyder of some sort. Now whilst I think we all know those cars dynamically are more capable than the GTS there's an awful lot to be said for the buzz of driving a car nearer to the edge of its performance envelope...and in my year of ownership I can't ever say I've felt like I was running out of grip or the car feels slow. But then I drive on UK B roads and country lanes mostly. Oh and because I can take both kids in it it gets used more than any GT car would.
GT cars are awesome and I may scratch that itch one day, but the reality for me is my trackday toy cannot be worth more than £10-15k and I wouldn't want a road car more focussed than the GTS for the narrow bumpy B roads that I enjoy with the ability to carry the offspring, so the GTS ticks all the boxes for now, and probably forever.

Agreed. Such a great and versatile car. I'd love a GT3 but I can use my GTS anywhere with my wife and 14 year old, plus more luggage than most non 997 drivers would think. My trouble is that my girl's growing up but there's nothing but nothing that can take my car's place.
As a PH member I'm kind of enjoying thinking about the problem, but can't find a solution though...

I have asked my OPXC about this and they deny all knowledge. Anyone able to give me a reference please?
Yep those that told me that there was a software upgrade need to rear their heads again...For now it seems to be more rumour than fact, although I'd be very pleased if someone was able to correct me, and clarify how this can be organised.

So lets see how long this GTS lasts for....A 997.2 GTS 4 PDK with 26,000 miles priced at £64,995 and 911V don't usually flex much on prices...
So that's the current retail for a 4wd PDK car with average spec and 26k miles!

The 911V 4GTS was mine prior to selling to them. I think they could have arguably asked more, as could I from them, however I believe both prices were very fair, and hence why it sold quickly. Clearly if I'd sold it to Hexagon then it would have been marketed at 70-75k, but would probably still be on their website in 3 months time (or even longer).
The car was in absolute excellent condition, so hope the new owner has as much fun in it as I did (on the limited occasions I used it).
Re prices, I'd suggest they are 'holding'. I think they will continued to do so, and maybe increase slightly as there is nothing in the same price bracket that is worth the switch to. You have to add another 25k-50k in my eyes for a worthwhile upgrade.

Did you change the GTS for something else? The car was in absolute excellent condition, so hope the new owner has as much fun in it as I did (on the limited occasions I used it).

No, not as yet. Just moved house and suspect that is going to take up every spare minute I have for the next 6 months.
Was looking at a 991GTS but couldn't decide on whether I wanted a coupe or targa (or whether the additional 40-60k was worth it).
Will probably buy next summer, but keeping an eye on prices, as there are a couple of other things that are looking tempting when your around the 100k mark.
