Snap.
I've been working away quite a bit, but am in the UK office today so treated the 996 to an outing. Popped it onto the ctek yesterday to give the battery a boost. All working well but it desperately needs a wash.

I thought it was a focus (on my phone). Ridiculous how big cars have got nowadays.
And a MiTo the other side which is also regarded a small car. Looks like an Aldi Q7 next to the 996.

I guess that's something like a Hyundai Santa Fe.

Magnus Walker has just bought a 996.2 C2 with 145,000 on the clock all for a bargain $5000. I know he already has a relatively standard 996.2 GT3 so Interested to see if he gives this new car the Urban Outlaw treatment

Would be tempted by that if I was looking. Highish miles but still looks good value for a rare colour kitted car.

Looks right that and a bit of a bargain.

Stop thinking of reasons not to buy it and get it bought.

he's bought the wrong car, should have gone 3.4

I was thinking this, he's gone for the capitulation headlights rather than the evolutionary ones that trace a clear line from the 70's cars, through the 964 and the 993 to the 996. Seems a big miss.

Maybe he deliberately wanted to buy the most unloved 996. $5000 sounds like a screaming bargain.

After a few years of lining up the move I finally managed to land a nice early 996 too:

1998 90k (miles) 3.4 Carrera 2 in Ocean Blue Metallic with the Metropol Blue interior. Extensive specialist history in the UK and Ireland.

Not a whole lot of options bar aircon, OBC and sunroof. No traction or stability, just a straightforward drivers car. This thread was a great help in helping me narrow my choice down to the very early amber/cable throttle cars.

Whatever you paid for that it should turn out to be a wise choice if you keep it for a while, and in the meantime you have a great drivers car to enjoy - congrats thumbup

Thanks. Matt at Porschacare sourced them for me.
They're 18s. Need to check to remind myself of width/offset but they take a standard tyre.

These cars look great on 17's if you ask me. You can get Fuchs in 17 too. I know I'm in the minority here but these early cars were probably designed 23 years ago when 18 wheels just didn't exist or were very very new. Hang on my car is 22 years old in a couple of months so make that 24 years ago or maybe even 25 years. My car is very very low so perhaps alters the perspective but none the less tyre I think a smaller wheel is much more retro. I used to get women throwing themselves at me when I had 18 inch wheels on this car and it got boring after a bit. Since the switch to 17 inch it's not happened once. I can now just drive around undisturbed.

scratchchin

The 993 RS came with 18” wheels (not forgetting they came as standard on the 993 Turbo too) and subsequently on the 996 Turbo and 996 GT3.

By the time the 996 was conceived 18” wheels were pretty much de rigeur on it.

I too prefer 18" wheels on the 996/7, I have to admit.

A retro themed 996/7 with 17" works, but otherwise I consider 18" wheels to be the minimum for these cars, imho.
I have the 19" Sport Design wheels (came as par of the sports pack with -20mm and lsd) on my 997 during summer and 18" Carrera IV (I think) wheels in winter.
Yes, the ride on 18" winter tires is smoother, and the 18" Carrera IV suit the car very well, but then again, so do the 19" Sport Design biggrin

Also 18" wheels where already a thing in the mid 90's. Even my fathers P1 V70R came with 18" wheels at the end of the old millenium.

Horses for courses, I guess.
