Fair enough

I had a 997 turbo coupe and my teenage daughter couldn't get in behind me (i am 6 1), and rear space is worse in the cab

Targas look great but they don’t work as 2 + 1s or 2 + 2s for short distances roof open in the way Cabrios do, because of the fixed glass rear screen. Anyone adult sized is folded both horizontally and vertically. In the Cabrio, roof open, rear passengers have infinite headroom
Ok, here goes, 3rd time lucky.... A 944 Turbo Cab

Thank you

Re the Cayman/Boxster etc I am a big fan but I need back seats. 2+2 very useful for 3 people or 4 on short journeys roof down. I have Ferraris with 2 seats for other use.

V interesting re 991.1 GTS. I guess a lot of this is personal taste, but if details check out it may be an excellent alternative.
It’s taken you 6 months of indecision and still can’t decide. It’s a 911, there are loads of them, loads of different iterations; soft top, coupe, targa, NA, turbo, turbo turbo - what do you want, lol.

The 991 generation Targa’s look fantastic in the flesh. Buy one and enjoy - prices tend to go up round about now and as inflation starts to fall, interest rates will be on the slide just in time to fuel another price bubble.

If you’re coming from a Brabus and looking for something similar, only the turbo turbo’s will compare. If you don’t intend tracking it, engine power, big brakes, fancy suspension and all that are moot - you can’t use the power nor will you be any faster in the real world than a 2.5 NA Boxster from 1999.

Or if you don’t need 4 seats get yourself an AMG GT and be done with it.

Good luck either way.

One of the things I am sure about is that I don’t want a targa, fixed rear screen being one reason. I know the origami requirements for rear passengers and for us, a Cabrio is the least bad, and rear isn’t a massive concern otherwise I would be looking at a different car category.

I do like a 944 Turbo cab, I had one and also a 968 cab in the 1990s, nice cars.

And yea, 997 or 991 Turbo was on the indecision list. The view here was rather against them I felt..I don’t need an AMG GT because I don’t love them and I have a few two seat Ferraris that fulfil that brief

The 991.1 GTS is a nice looking one which I will try and view next week. If the last 997 GTS I viewed, great spec, had been as advertised (it’s still on sale) I would have bought that.

Not that many great cars around when it comes to 10+ year old desirable models. There are a few nice looking 997 Turbos but I have been put off those.

With 997 Turbos the view here put me off a little. I haven’t driven them since they were current and back in the day remember preferring the GTS for involvement, but I didn’t own either. I also recall feeling the 997.1 Turbo was more involving than the 997.2 both S and non S but obviously I drove them at different times after launch and memories can deceive, and a 997.1 is too old now for me as a DD.

So much of this is subjective of course and it’s totally illogical for me to even think of any of these as a DD based in central London, but logic would lead to no car and taking Ubers, far easier and cheaper.

Sounds like you've got excellent experience. All I can share is my 997 Gen 1.5 Turbo has been my daily driver since 2014 and is parked on the street. Like any older car, some components need refreshing from time to time. But to counter that is the depreciation on anything newer and needing less upkeep.

A Gen 1.5 997 Turbo cab is tempting for sure. As we need a two pedal car, though, it would be a tiptrohic rather than PDK.

It's a good point about depreciation, though with any older car there is just more risk of time off the road, I guess, which is not ideal for a daily driver.

I had a GC MC for a few months in 2017. Somehow this car is less than the sum of its parts, for me, anyway. I drove it to the Alps that summer.. Engine sound is fantastic, looks great, but the driving position was never comfortable with a narrow footwell, and handling rather wooden with jerky steering and little feedback. I also don't hear great things about their reliability. But it has good space in the back and if it went as well as it looked and sounded..it would be quite something.

I am back in the country next week after a couple of weeks travelling for businesses and the update on this is as follows:

Cars previously seen with a view to buy:

Two 997 GTS cabrios, one not as advertised at all (water ingress, AC not working), one just not tempting with slightly tired and non alcantara interior.

One 991.2 S, not on the list but great spec and colour, lovely car but just not engaging enough.

Cars in the classifieds I plan to see if they check out and are still available:

A 991.1 GTS

A 997 Turbo S

Possibly a 997 Turbo tiptrohic

At this rate summer will be over smile

Why not try ...

https://www.hexagonclassics.com/porsche

...who have x3 997.2 GTS Cabs, x2 997.2 S cabs, a 991.1 GTS cab, and few 997 Turbo S's

plenty of choice all at one place. No affiliation but seems like the place to visit for your brief.

Yes, Hexagon are good, thank you for the link, although often overpriced..A couple of those cars have been on sale since last summer. I am not buying a car for summer so timing doesn’t bother me in that sense.
The GTS Cabrios are not the right spec for me, though. there is no 991.1 GTS (only a S - maybe it sold?) and I wouldn’t take a 997.2 S. the others are coupes.
I would welcome any thoughts from anyone who has owned a 991.1 GTS and a 997 Turbo S..

I’d say that Maserati has a very different appeal. Not for me but I am sure some people love them.
