what is an 'early' 3.4 996?
Discussion
No way of knowing just looking at those pics. My bumper looks fooked. If I changed it or had it repainted then my car might look like its had a frontal impact too. Its a 20 year old car after all.
Could be a billy bargain that car IF it has the mystical piston coating. Although I'm not sure Dammit cares about that as he will probably be ripping the engine to bits right?

And that could be the car.
Sorry, thrown by your reference to piston coating.Might not take long to kill the engine - MOT checker reports "engine ticking / noisy".
Not come across that before on an MOT, perhaps something created specifically for M96 engines...

I’m watching it, let’s see where it ends. I’d be planning on keeping the engine stock, and fitting a load of oiling updates- then trying to kill the engine with oil starvation by for e.g. taking lots of fast, long left handers.
Stuck mine on the trickle charger and checked the diary over the NY. Hasn't been out since 26th November. Shameful.
Gave it a little run out to work this morning. Need to baby wipe the interior to get rid of a bit of mould, but other than that we're good.
I sold the Audi in December so hoping to get out in the 996 more. I may even get round to doing a few of the little jobs I've been storing up.
- respray one front wing as it's got a few chips
- indicator stalk is flappy
- need to glue the rear window rubber in place
- I want to replace the seats with some non bucket sports jobbies (Cobra Classic RSRs)
- I'll do the Ohlins at some point (but have been saying that for 2 years already)
Who else has plans?

I have a list of jobs but I dont want to commit to doing them anytime soon.
Most pressing is the window regulator on the driver's side.
I need to sort out the headlamps.
I have a pair of proper buckets I want to try out.
I've been thinking about getting the KW refurbed but that feels like a big job and I'm currently living without a drive so on road parking which doesnt feel suitable for removing all the dampers from the car and leaving it while I wait for them to be returned.

Took mine out a few times whilst off over Christmas. Boxing Day in the pouring rain was awful, new Michelin PS2 tyres were hopeless with standing water, like Bambi on ice Had a run out yesterday to go to the Brookland meet, much better once there was some heat in the tyres.
Still waiting to get my seats refurbed, Momo steering wheel in at the same time so interior spruce up on the cards and I might get the AC sorted this year as well. I quite fancy a yellow tint on the headlights as well, I might wait until after the MOT next month for that though...

Mine will stay at my brother in laws in the UK, and will get used when I’m back for work and family trips.
I’ve done quite a bit to it over the past few years,.. as well as regular maintenance, it’s had pretty much all the suspension replaced, AC sorted, new rads, full exhaust, water pump, cup wheel, DAB radio and Alpine speakers & the front end painted.
But I still have a couple of things left..
1. Remove the semi solid engine mounts and switch back to stock. They do improve the handling, but the increase in NVH and deterioration in ride quality isn’t worth it for a car that needs to do 300 mile motorway runs as well as weekend blasts.
2. Sort the wheels out. Ideally, I’d like some Fuchs, but this will only happen if work progresses well. Otherwise the current ones will get a refurb.

Interesting how some say they make little or no difference to NVH & others switch back due to unacceptable harshness!Something I'm interested in doing but don't want to waste any cash, the car is quite capable of sucking me dry as it is!
