The front toe settings laugh
Someone paid to have it set to toe out to get a sharper and more pointy front end I bet!
It would certainly have been pointy with -0.23 on the OS front laugh

Mind you, when I took mine in post the kwikfit effort, I had over -1.5 on the NS rear... it didn’t want to run in a straight line and was terrifying round any right hander. My wife had driven it 40 miles Back from London like that, including a stretch on the M3 and M25... it’s a wonder it didn’t chuck her in to the central reservation.

FGP were easy to sell to, whilst the private punters were asking if i minded taking it for a borescope and what condition the IMS was, etc. FGP turned up with a trailer and bought it on the spot. They were going to replace the IMS anyway. I was able to complete the purchase on my next car without any fear of comeback. They turned it around and made a profit. Fair play to them, those that dither lose out...

Mine continues to go well, 1100miles in now in 6 weeks, and doesn’t appear to have used any oil from the digital level gauge.

I still haven’t had the PPI report, or quote for bits needed from Project Nine despite chasing. From the screenshot of their job card which they sent on the day I have amassed nearly all the bits I think I need, and the plan is next week I’ll start on those.

I want to get it all done for 20th September when I am taking it over to Classics at Prescott and going up the hill, probably very slowly!

All I’ve done to date is replace the battery and resync the second remote key, and fit the popular Continental head unit which is a significant improvement over the CDR-22. It came direct from VDO in Germany and was delivered less than 24hrs after ordering.

Edited to add: has anyone swapped to 997 wheels and tyre sizes and found any degrading of the handling? It tramlines quite a bit and was wonder if it’s because the fronts are 6mm further in and the rears 5mm further out? I will swap back to 996 at some stage, but not sure how much of a priority I should make it.

Still loving it driving

Glad your pleased with the car Hugh. Do you get any interference on the continental? I get some from the fan when the engine is running and the fan is up high. Engine off and no interference. Very annoying.

I haven’t noticed any interference with the Continental but have mainly streamed from my phone.

Incidentally, the original unit did suffer from interference with revs. On fitting the new unit I discovered an old signal booster on the aerial, which I assume was the cause, I have disconnected it and will remove it when I fit the centre console delete in due course.

Hey think I had interference when I installed mine. Googled it and there’s a fix that involves earthing the case... it’s a while ago so may be wrong.

Tyres are Kumho KH71 and a different Kuhmo on the back, about 2 years old and done ~3k miles. They are 997 sizes so 235/40 and 265/40. Still playing with pressures.
I was running 997 tyres on my car for a while (came with the wheels - same ones you're running) and it seemed to drive fine. I've recently put a new set of Eagle f1's on and I would say that the driving experience has improved but that might just be due to much newer tyres more than them being the correct size.

Didn't know the fronts had 6mm less offset than standard 996 wheels, I need to hurry up and get some from 10mm spacers.

And thats the advantage of selling to a trader.

My Mrs needed to get shot of her TT the other week, WBAC offered 4k, private was probably 5.5 phoned a local trader, he popped round offered 4k with it transferred the money there and then car gone.

Either of the other options would have almost inevitably involved having the price chipped plus dealing with all the tyre kickings, best price bro innit idiots.

As it was he gave it a good valet refurbed the wheels etc and still made a decent profit on it. Win win for both parties.

So I stepped up and bought what I think is a good 996.2 with an engine rebuild.

I stand by preferring the earlier headlights. I dont have funds to do now but would the earlier headlights and associated bumper just bolt up to .2? I cant see if the lights are different in the wing itself from the photos on line? Black car with earlier look would be lovely.

The wings are different I’m afraid. You should still do it though.

Gentlemen

My mate is thinking of selling his car and wants an idea of fair price. Briefly

2003
114k miles
5 owners

He has had it 3 years
Spent £7k himself in that time on servicing to include
AC pipes and Condensors
Both side new Porsche regulators
Discs and pads
Clutch
Alternator
Water pump
Spark plugs
Coils
MAF
Battery

I'd say around £15K realistically, as it sounds to be a solid buy just by description.

I've just bought a 98 C2 Manual cabrio with very similar recent service history plus a bit more, dampers, upper arms, ARB bushes, EPS IMS, and 120K miles. It needs a bit of tidying and has a 10 year old Cat C record on it, but was only £7K.

Looks lovely. I'd suggest that backdating to a 996.1 front end would be a good way to throw away a lot of money. If my ULEZ moaning doesn't get anywhere I'll swap you for my ocean blue next summer.

How are you getting on with ULEZ?

I submitted my exemption application to TfL and they promptly rejected it because it's not Euro 4. I wrote them a nice email in reply saying that the documentation I provided showed the car was well within Euro 4 spec, and that's what all the stuff on their website says matters, along with the original EU directive documentation for reference in case they didn't have it to hand, but they have not yet responded. That was 3 weeks ago now.

Waiting for an email back from Porsche regarding the emissions inconsistencies. Then I'll have the joy of corresponding with TFL assuming the news back from Porsche is good - which is far from a given.

I dare say the owner (Rob) is on here as he's on 911uk and the FB group. I do enjoy his videos.
