997 Turbo Prices

That's the thing, I hadn't driven the car for about 2 weeks then decided to take it out last weekend...only travelled 1 mile and got a fault warning on dash.... Turns out my tyre monitoring sensors have went flat, £150 a wheel, another £600 spent on a car I only do 1000 miles a year in! BUT and there's a BIG BUT, on the rare occasion I do get time to enjoy the car it puts the biggest smile on my face ever, it truely is an amazing car!
The sensible part of me says sell, the petrolhead nutter part of me says keep.
Think you could find something much cheaper to buy and run to have as a weekend car, as well as more fun.The 997 turbo comes across more as a great daily than a toy, 1000 miles a year seems a really waste on such a car.The sensible part of me says sell, the petrolhead nutter part of me says keep.

Wow so 5:1 gen1 vs gen2! No wonder I struggled to find the right car.....
Hmmm 3.7:1 actually, but yes quite a difference. Anyone would think some catastrophic happened to the world economy in late 2008/2009

Mine will never be worth anything as its been modded but a-b on a typical give and take leafy UK road an F12, 458 Speciale, and 12C wouldn't know which way it went IMO. See clip. On a longer run it would also show a clean pair of heals to a 650 S. Impressive for a manual.

So, on the basis that a Gen 2 is a better car than the Gen 1 (PDK vs Tiptronic and better reliability), and built in far fewer numbers, then it is also a much better long term buy.......
Yes I think so. Having driven several of each I think the gen2 is a better car so that should reflect in future values. StuH said:
I think gen2's will outperform gen1's in the longer term - better car and fewer of them.
Really doubt it. The gen 2 is in no man's land between the Mezger 997.1 and the 991 turbo. If I was in the market for a non-Mezger turbo in the longer term, I'd be looking for a 991 with the newer tech, rather than a precursor to the 991.Skrambles said:

Well I WAS in the market 2 months ago and saw it completely differently - I was originally going for a gen1 but once I'd driven the gen2 It was so obviously the better car, that I increased my budget. The 991 is massively more expensive again and bigger so that just didn't figure in the equation. The gen2 feels like a much newer car with PDK and PCM3 and at the end of the day I just buy the best car to drive for my budget not as an investment - there are much better investments out there Four times as many gen1 makes them a bit common as well StuH said:

Fair comments, but:-The 991 is still comparatively new. In a few years time (longer term), when they've tumbled in price, it'll be a different story.
A lot of gen 1 997 turbos were made, though it seemed (when I was buying mine in 2009) that most were tiptronic. The OPCs' line was that the car was designed to be tiptronic and better for it, and that only a minority went for manual.
I drove quite a few gen 2 turbos (and turbo S), including quite a few at Silverstone. They didn't feel newer to me, and certainly didn't feel any better than the gen 1, but I did like the PDK much more than the tiptronic - that certainly felt newer. PCM3 was an insignificant difference and already seemed dated. (In-car tech is an area in which Porsche is years behind BMW, IMO).
