the RS is a track car, if the wing helps better lap times then it should be there
No it's absolutely not 'a track car'. It's a road car that can be used fairly hard on track (if one doesn't mind the mindboggling cost of brakes and 21" rear tyres) and it's also pretty quick on track. There is quite a difference.Melvynr said:
Looks like they still haven't mastered the ccb from squeaking like a hog at 205 mins in vid.Crazy on a car of that value.

Looks like both those cars are actually on steel brakes.https://youtu.be/Skb_67vkT7A

For perspective, the WP pack - which Costs a small fortune - is probably worth half a second on the lap, which is the same as throwing 50kg of unnecessary bits off of the build.
Half a second a lap but worth heaps more on the pub bragging right front....if people couldn't boast about their option list including unobtainium wheels, forged carbon front wings and other such tat who'd be buying the RS....? isaldiri said:

From what i've heard from a very reliable source, the only bragging that goes on in the pub are the flippers telling everybody how much money they made on their latest flipped GT Porsche..True story.Taffy66 said:

From what i've heard from a very reliable source, the only bragging that goes on in the pub are the flippers telling everybody how much money they made on their latest flipped GT Porsche..True story.(1) Agree its not a track car in terms of a dedicated car, but it is very well suited to track use. In my car I use my cars both on road and on track, most miles on road.
(2) I don't give a damn about flipping, nor will I pay above list. Either I get the list price or no car. Of course there are flippers and people who put options on for resale. For me personally I do not need PCCBs so do not fit them. Nh harm for people to do whatever they do with options. I have my own preferences.
(3) When I go the tracks there are scads of GT3s and RS being thrashed. I would conclude that some people drive the things and are not posers. If I were a poser a yellow Lambo or the like would be preferable than an ugly Porsche like this.
(4) For me the huge wing on the RS is not that I want as I have to drive the car on the road as well and the track and it looks ridiculous. .I have one reserved to add to my existing cars, but might just go for a regular GT3 if this turns out to be the production wing. I am not a racing driver, just someone who enjoys track a few times a year, and my existing cars have done well there.
(5) I fully respect that there are truly serious frequent track users who race and this may well not be the right car for them.

Yep. These cars are very expensive to run per day compared with the earlier cars. That’s a lot of mass for the tyres and brakes to manage.
I’ll take your proper 6RS thank you very much. I really regret not picking one up around 2008/9. Lovely racing cars
But nobody cares about how fast it really is on how much it costs to run on track (well people do care how fast it is over one lap for bragging rights) - needs to look fast in the pub car park I’ll take your proper 6RS thank you very much. And have a lithium battery and carbon parts (visible unpainted obviously because lighter) to go with the full leather pack with deviated stitching, aircon, Nav, Lift etc etc and most importantly Magnesium rims and a titanium cage to save those all important kgs that will make the difference on the way to the pub
996 RS is lighter you say ... who cares where is your stitching on that unsellable plastic dash - it is a luxury car and needs to look like one

Unfortunately reduced weight seems to be a lot more expensive to engineer than a massive spoiler !
When was the last genuine lightweight 911 i.e. say 100kg lighter than a mainstream car ? Weissach pack and Carrera T efforts I would say pay little more than lip service personally.
My RS WP with Lithium-ion battery and PCCBs weighs over 60Kg less than an otherwise similar non Weissach RS with steel brakes and OEM battery...Must make a difference in dynamics plus the equivalent of finding an extra 21 BHP on the heavier non WP car to offer an identical Power/weight ratio..When was the last genuine lightweight 911 i.e. say 100kg lighter than a mainstream car ? Weissach pack and Carrera T efforts I would say pay little more than lip service personally.
I wonder what’s lighter a Weissach RS or an RS specced without a cage at all ?

It’s a shame they still don’t offer an OEM lightweight battery option...wonder why as clearly it would be a must have. Weissach itself is only 18kg isn’t it ?

The OEM Li-ion battery as fitted to the 981GT4 and 991.1GT3 RS wasn't up to the job and caused all kinds of issues despite being made by Samsung in Austria ..WP saves only 18kg and the Mags a further 12Kg..My Antigravity battery save 14.5Kg which is a cheap way to save weight compared to a Ti/Inconel exhaust..I wonder what’s lighter a Weissach RS or an RS specced without a cage at all ?
Having said that next job for me is to fit an exhaust, either JCR or an Inconel i've seen by another British company..

That's the OEM Porsche made by Samsung..Overpriced and troublesome..Get an Anti-gravity one instead which i have fitted to both my RS and Ferrari..Great value and reliable.. Taffy66 said:

I am not averse to saving weight (nobody is I guess), but that’s too much - I can do a lot of track days / tuition for that amount
How much are the batteries you have for when I next need to replace one (unfortunately more often than I would like ...)?

Yeah I would not buy that - that’s insane for a battery (I assume the one in my car broke and they replaced it with a cheaper normal one at some point)

I bet BrnttRubber has already specced his 992 GT3,992GT3 Touring, 992GT2RS 992.1GT3RS.1 992.2GT3RS and 992Spyder, all in PTS and probably already knows the new owners, got to get ahead of the game if you are smart
Glad you're enjoying the RS..Its a really special car although i haven't been able to enjoy it this year as much as i'd have liked with Covid..Surprisingly a big step up on the GT3 and the latest engine is even sharper probably down to the ITBs..The flippers are all mouth and no trousers and never gave the RS a chance in terms of driving enjoyment..Hopefully next year will be better so i can do some regular track days..Its a really dirty business on allocating these cars and not doing Porsche's image any good at all.
