Sounds like a lovely buy!
Thanks very much! I also thank the previous owners for their thorough and diligent care of the car, also evidenced in the paperwork (for example one of them seems to have traced every single owner of the car and filled in their name and address in the Service Book, or perhaps every owner has bothered to fill it in themselves.....not sure) But mainly because it seems to drive very well indeed and you'd be hard pushed to realise its actually 22 years old or so now.richthebike said:
Looks fantastic! Congratulations on the purchase, and good to hear you've got the 911 itch.
What are you planning on using it for? With such an interesting collection I guess you have something in mind?
Thanks! Yes I have always loved a 911, just never owned one. Is it wrong that I am also looking at 997s now too? What are you planning on using it for? With such an interesting collection I guess you have something in mind?
In terms of planned usage, I generally struggle. I am quite busy day to day. I have a daily driver that makes Central London driving nice and relaxing, albeit its a bit oversized and we have some pretty tight side streets here.
At the moment I have managed to sneak in a few drives of the 911, some at 2AM just heading west out of London and making my way back home on a different route.
Also of note is that I have the Top Gear silencers on the car, of the Sport rather than Mild variety, and it seems really loud to me. One part of me is thinking about toning this down a bit but some part of me is thinking to get uprated cats and manifolds too...
Trying not to sound like a weirdo here, but I just really enjoy knowing that I own a nice example of a 996 and I also derive some pleasure in just looking at it even.
I like trying to do the odd bit of work on my cars from time to time, always fun in my underground car park, but touch wood there doesn't seem to be much wrong at the moment, apart from one tiny sort of squeak somewhere near the passenger seat.
I note the engine mounts seem to be original, so I'll check the history again and perhaps replace those for new stock ones or perhaps slightly stronger ones.
The rear tyres will need replacing at some point, about 4mm left on them, but I am embarrassed to say that they may last me 3 or 4 years at this rate.

I even keep an old suitcase in one of my cars and bring the battery up in that and then down the next day.
Thats brilliant, Ha! shalmaneser said:
Would be interested to know what you bought and from where?
One of these https://www.ebay.com/itm/221968653660
Message the chap and let him know what colour you want and he'll paint it for you. Not sure why it shows dollars, as the guy is in Cyprus and it was with me in just over a week.
Can I ask what you all think of this one? I've been looking for a while and this seems to tick a fair few boxes. Service history is good up until 2015 but then nothing until 2017 where it was at Porsche Colchester for a new Clutch and Steering rack

Looks nice, sports seats and LSD, probably would have been M030 suspension and roll bars originally as that combination was available as a single option. I’m not a fan of the wheels but that is personal opinion.
2015-2017 gap could be a non-issue or a major problem depending on whether it’s 13 months or 35, and how many miles done.
I made the mistake of seeing a big stack of invoices but not really interrogating them and it hadn’t had some of the suspension work that was implied. If you can take the time to go through everything and summarise it. I have a list of all the suspension components and tabulated service schedule if you want a copy let me know.

Thanks I’ll take a look at the Northway one.
Does anyone know the approach and departure angle for a C2? My drive is fairly steep. The incline is a little over 7mtrs long with an elevation change of 1.2m. I’m wondering now if it’ll even get up ok.
Going up at an angle isn’t an option either due to the a few factors.

Standard is 12 degrees front, 14.5degrees rear. Does anyone know the approach and departure angle for a C2? My drive is fairly steep. The incline is a little over 7mtrs long with an elevation change of 1.2m. I’m wondering now if it’ll even get up ok.

My drive is fairly steep and with a bit of a wiggle at the ramp it goes up without scraping.

The front and rear overhang is pretty long. The chassis is also pretty stiff so not sure how successful going at an angle will be. I'm sure someone posted a photo of their 996 parked on their sloped drive at an angle with a rear wheel in the air like a dog taking a widdle.
The 2015 - 2017 gap in the service history wouldn't worry me unless it had covered loads of miles during that time. I think a lot of these cars have been through the "run on a shoe string" phase following the low values in the early 2000 teens where many of them suffered sporadic maintenance. 2 years is nothing anyway. That's what the Porsche recommended interval was later in the 996 life.

I think thats more to do with anti roll bar stiffness. I can get a front off the ground easily enough parked basically flat but with 3 wheels on the pavement and one off - if that makes sense. I think the rears are trickier because the back is heavier so the back likes to settle at is preferred angle and that leaves the front to figure out what it wants to do.GT6 Jonsey said:
I’m starting to find these battery drain issues a pain in the arse with my 996. It’s kept in secure storage without a mains supply and only comes out to play every other week. Im forever having to use a jump pack to start it so was pondering the idea of fitting a battery isolation switch that I can turn off. Any thoughts on whether this would be ok to do ? Or would the continual cutting of the battery power fudge the cars electrical system over time
Reading posts like this make me think I am back in the TVR section.... I hope you get it sorted
I’m pretty sure this is one of the cars I was interested in around 18+ months ago. It was for sale at FGP at the time for 21k ish so they must have purchased it back. Looks like it has only covered around 300 miles since. Nice car, low miles, strong money

FGPs advert does confirm they sold it previously & the owner only did 300 miles in it & apparently spent some £s on a set of tyres, exhausts etc. It’s been discussed on 911uk & looks to have had some decent £s spent in the last couple of years & in red is a rare colour let alone non sunroof and a C2. I couldn’t own a car like that & do so few miles though I’ve a friend or two with 996s who are & I think it’s a waste.Original video
