I'm feeling guilty, I've been having thoughts lately about changing my 996.1 for a Gransport.
I know I shouldn't, I've got mine sorted with Hartech rebuild & new MO30 suspension in last 6K miles but the shining pictures jump out at me. This lockdown is doing weird things to my mind
Keep us posted if you decide to sell. I know a couple of people half interested in buying. I'm even tempted to buy a 2nd myself.

Thanks guys, sold my gen2 Boxster S last year and want another Porsche, but fancy a 911 this time. A gen 2 997 is out of budget, so would prefer to go as early 996 as I can, ambers and all.

Know what to look for mechanically on the Boxster, so assume most would apply here as well.
Good tip on the paddles, think that will make a difference
Most of your Boxster knowledge should transfer right over, as you're looking for a tip I would have thought the market will be a lot more buyer friendly, it seems like the decent manuals are sold almost before they hit the market.

Why not look at that tip I posted on the previous page?

Looks good value to me and would be a good few grand higher were it a manual.

I did consider it myself but went the other way and got something else instead yesterday.

I’ve had a Tiptronic for 7 years... no problem. Love it. Had the gearbox fluid changed 2 years ago and it felt like a brand new gearbox. To be fair, before I got the Porsche bug, I had Mercs for about 10 years. With a Mercedes you struggle to find a manual. smile I really can’t see me going to any other brand other than Porsche now, after 3 Boxsters & a 911. cloud9

My car developed a problem in that occasionally it wouldn’t start in ‘Park’ mode. I had to shift it into ‘N’ (neutral) to start it. When I took it to my Indy, he said that the shifter should move a bit more easily also, something that had never concerned me, not having had a Porsche Tip before. Anyway, they changed the fluid & cleaned the linkage. The difference was unbelievable, it was literally like they had put a new transmission in. smile

I picked this up, C4 3.4 that has been used properly, owner used it as his daily for the last 10 years doing around 8k miles a year, until last year where it only did a couple of thousand due to lockdown.
Now at 132k, but has a folder absolutely full of history with just about all the niggly bits sorted in the last 3 years and 14k miles.
Suspension overhail (M030 from factory), brake lines, climate lines and compressor, coolant lines, gearbox rebuild with new clutch and rms seal replaced and ims checked and the list goes on. Around £10k of invoices in the last 3 years. He thought it was a forever car, but house move and need for cash changed that.

It needs a bit of paint or laquer on the rear wing and.....that's about it.
Oh, and there is a bit of an annoying dah vibration pulling away or in 2nd at low revs, going to have to hunt that down!
Needs a new battery too, going to order an AGM Bosch 05.

I was going to order some new seat covers as the leather was looking 20 years old, but I used furniture clinics super string cleaner (only use that st once!) yesterday and within an hour it was looking nice and factory matte. Result.

Need to decide whether to do a console delete or put in a double din or even the Porsche PCCM Plus.

I went out for a blat around last night instead of opening a bottle of red, 2 hours just going round some of my favourite B roads just for the sake of it. Don't think I have done that in a car for 10 years or more, not even with the Z4 coupe, the Boxster S, probably not since I had the M3 CSL.

These are an absolute bargain now and really do feel like the last of an era. Even though the lockdown has crucified my business, and buying another car right now is totally irresponsible, I thought if I don't do it now I probably never will. Plus it has stopped me looking at £50k 991's. laugh

Hopefully everyone was OK.

Where & when? I was talking to a guy yesterday, said he’d seen police around a black 911 in some trees frown on the road to Barrow-in-Furness.

Luckily everyone was OK, it was due to be collected this weekend but there was an annoying beep coming from behind the dash. He took the car out for a run to make sure the battery was fully charged on the way to the auto electrician.

Presume diesel on a wet roundabout but the back end just went and off into the scenery he went.

Aye, such a shame as it was on my drive a week ago and it was looking and sounding gorgeous.

Luckily he had an agreed value policy and gets to keep what’s left of it, a great re-she’ll project for someone.

Massive shame - seemed a really nice car and very unfortunate timing for him.

The main thing is he's OK. Given the point of impact that's not a given. Shame about the car.

Wounded... for him and the buyer!

Funny how no one ever runs out of talent, there’s always diesel on the road, ha.

Used the 996 for the first time in a while yesterday. Quick 5 minutes round the block just to check all is well before a trip out today. This morning I found the windows absolutely drenched on the inside. Pointless pics below. Water actually trickling down the front screen. I had a bit of condensation when my front drains were blocked but I cleared them out maybe 12 months ago. Could they be clogged up already. Obviously I'll be checking them soon but are there any others to check. I've got a niggling suspicion that this may be coming from somewhere at the back as my rear window was just as bad as the front. Could a warm engine be pushing water through to the cabin some how.

ATM, you need to check your door membranes, and whether you have damp carpets somewhere.

Get your aircon fixed if it isn't working - if it is, use it! Is there any way of getting a running dehumidifier in there?

Unless you park beneath the leafiest tree that ever leafed I can't see your drains blocking that quickly, obviously worth a quick glance beneath the scuttle covers though. Must be getting in somewhere else, door membranes as mentioned or rear wiper seal? Don't think you've got a sunroof so not that unless you do have one!

As an aside good to meet a fellow threadist in B&Q Old Kent Road yesterday, clearly the South London DIY emporium of choice for those in the know.
