The 997 Appreciation Thread

Ideal spec? Mine of course
manual 997.1 C2 with almost no options
No sunroof, extended leather (standard in the UK, iirc), basic seats, sports pack with lsd, passive sports suspension (-20mm), 19“ wheels. Basic stereo and it doesn‘t even have sat nav (but has the pcm screen, just no gps module).
Honestly, the best spec is the one you have. They are all great. And they actually are very good in basic spec allready.
The one I have was the right car to buy for me at the time and it still suits me perfectly today. Only option (european market) that was mandatory for me was the extended leather.

My first 911 at my 67th.
After a long search I came across my fav. 997 from the first dutch owner, always Porsche dealer maintained and in meteorgrau metallic. No stone chips or respray.
The only thing I am going to alter is the exhaust.

Ideal 997 spec?
For me it was the spec on my 3.8RS..LWBs,Sports chrono, thicker steering wheel, ( apparently not a common choice),no PCCBs....ready to roll:
"thicker steering wheel, ( apparently not a common choice)".....I optioned one of those, not because I wanted the thicker wheel but because I didn't want the silver spokes on the standard wheel. For me it was the spec on my 3.8RS..LWBs,Sports chrono, thicker steering wheel, ( apparently not a common choice),no PCCBs....ready to roll:

Spec - fixed back carbon buckets, lift, ceramics, no chrono, carbon tunnel, PTS Basalt black, Sound Plus, painted headlight washers, front cage extensions...so a bit of everything to give hybrid between touring / town speed bumps and focus.
In hindsight, having got the option of PTS I should have gone for different colour but at the time I was transfixed by the 997 GT2RS and what that looked like in black so that's what I went for.
Love the car - factory collection with my dad on his 70th. Just great times and memories.

So what's the PistonHeads ideal spec for a 997 then?
It's a relatively easy one to answer for the pre 997 cars as they had fewer engine choices and no fancy electronic options like PASM, sports Chrono etc.
Same as all 911's, manual, 2wd, coupe. It's a relatively easy one to answer for the pre 997 cars as they had fewer engine choices and no fancy electronic options like PASM, sports Chrono etc.
3.2 Carrera - 87-89 manual G50 Coupe
964 C2 - manual, coupe
993 C2 - Manual coupe (96> varioram)
996 C2 - Manual coupe
997 C2S/GTS (Gen 2), manual coupe
Or GT3, RS if funding permits.
Ah, but it's usually a wee bit more complicated. For example, with the 996 many folk will say an early 3.4 should be favoured over a later car.
So with the 997 the DFI engine is "preferred" and the 3.8 over the 3.6? sports chrono, adaptive dampers etc don't really matter?
I could probably stretch to a 996 GT3 instead but it becomes a completely different proposition then. It then becomes something I can't pick the kids up from school in as well as all the other stuff.

On my 2nd 997 in the last 2 months, its a saga!
The 1st was a 997.1. Tip.Cab.
Heres the "latest" a 997.2. PDK. 2009.
Significant improvement over the Dot 1 IMHO.
PX'd my forever car, 2017 F80 M3.
Not as rapid, but the 911 analogue handling is a world more fun than the electronic M3.
If only it would stop feckin raining

Enjoy.
I doubt very much it will blow up you.... mind you this depends on which sites you read Or visit ! It’s quite refreshing to even see a 997 appreciation thread of any kind without some one who’s bought a 996 telling everyone else how “Chocolate” engines in the gen.1 997’s melt.
An X51 power kit in a C4S is a bit of rareity, just get out there and enjoy driving it, go through the usual routine of warming it up and look after it, keep on top of maintenance and you should enjoy many miles of trouble free motoring.
