I don't think it will be all that long before any naturally aspirated manual R8 Porsche GT3 etc with low miles in great condition will shoot up in price. Look at even the Ferrari 612 Not long ago autos were available around 60k and a manual 70k. Now take a look I can only find 2 a POA car and a 2005 20k miles for sale at £139k which is nearly double the price of an auto. Yes there were not that many manuals built but a V12 non turbo manual ferrari is much sought after. I predict in 5 years (if we don't all go to war cos of Trump) that a low mileage 996 GT3 will be up around 100k....we will all see but I don't think you have to be a car dealer to see the logic in that statement.

These cars are all about the "driving perspective" though. There aren't many other arguments for them. Certainly it's the very reason I will always own a naturally aspirated, petrol-engined, manual car with hydraulic (or non-assisted) steering, and the reason why we are already past the peak of development if they are the criteria that you deem as most important. Electric/Hybrid cars are not, in my view, direct competitors to the sort of cars discussed (and never will be). I'm admittedly a luddite when it comes to cars, and realise many will happily turn their backs on the criteria that I feel deliver the best driving experience, but equally I believe there will always be a strong demand for the pinnacle of analogue automotive development, the internal combustion engine, and driver involvement/immersion.Will demand/prices remain high or will they fall back quite significantly because no one wants a 'dinosaur'?

100% this. Like art collectors, buy it cos it makes you happy, not for its future value.That way if the market crashes and burns, you still own AND USE something you get enjoyment from.
Interested to read this thread as I am currently considering a 996 Turbo.
It will be a couple of months before I'm in a position to buy so just been looking at what is around. From what is currently for sale there seams to be a vast difference in price range from £35k to £55k for what seam to be similar spec, mileage cars
Not looking for an investment car as such, just something I can use as a second car, keep for 2 to 3 years and sell for similar money to what I paid for it.
As an 'investment' I guess GT3 would be a safer bet? My max would be £55k for the right car so I may be lucky and get a GT3 but this would be lower end GT3 where £55k gets me into high end turbo?

GT3 would be a 'safer' bet and TBH would very probably, like for like, cost less to run, simply because the turbo has two of everything that's expensive to run, long term: turbos, intercoolers, actuators, wastegates etc. etc.It will be a couple of months before I'm in a position to buy so just been looking at what is around. Like for like being the key here, because with both cars, you either buy on condition or at your peril. Bills can be very big.

go manual, desirable colour, x50 or S variant and tintop, that will increase the odds of it holding or increasing in value. They are still bonkers quick even in standard trim, it will just feel more analogue than you remember. ...for a black, comfort, without buckets or cage, and at an auction - yes it does 
Just saying that pricing has always been quite broad for these cars depending on colour, mileage, CS/no CS, buckets/no buckets, cage/no cage, accident/no accident etc. Not knocking it - there is a home for all cars at the right price, and very satisfied owners too.
Yes some seem to come and go quickly yet most sit around for months or years.

I’m currently in the market for one and fancy a Mk2 this time after my Mk1 CS a few years ago.
I doubt it’ll be a CS though, but It must have buckets.
The market is very slow though so I’m in no rush. If things miraculously picked up suddenly then I’d buy something quickly.
As said, the market is deathly slow and even the ones we all deem as bargains don’t fly out the door immediately.
I’m just watching for a month or two.
Failing that it’ll be a 993 C2 or a 987 Spyder.
Someone said the Supercar Rooms Polar car had sold but it’s still listed everywhere?
I offered them £52k a couple of weeks ago but they said no.
The truth of it is probably that demand has dropped right off but no one has dropped prices in response.
It seems most sellers even the respected dealers, are happy to just sit on them for years.
