Does anyone really care if they lose money on their GT3?

If I can drop £100k + on a car as good and enjoyable to drive as a GT3, not fussed if I lose £20,30,40k….

Surely if one spends £100k + on a car, then it doesn’t represent (or at least really shouldn’t) represent a significant part of their overall wealth / earning capacity, and losing money on it won’t have any meaningful impact, or am I missing something?
I'm sure plenty of people finance their cars and don't want to end up in negative equity or lose all the money they put in as a deposit. Not everyone is paying cash and some people will stretch themselves. Others are just very frugal with their finances and want to have some fun with the car at minimal cost to leave more cash for other things.

I agree Twin fan, nothing wrong with looking after the cash. Where prices settle is a total guess, but the gt3 remains an awesome machine that only a few can buy new and is currently only being brought into the UK in very small numbers. There are utube videos that talk of £100k premiums on the 992 gt3, but they don't seem to allow for the options as most Gt3 are carrying £20k-£30k in options. The 992 Gt3 with pts and good spec, and the matching watch has OTR price of £183k. (£174k without the watch) I can't see the premiums going anywhere just up for debate how much they will be.
There had been a flurry of late in flippers Cars coming to the market and several cars being discounted but if that leads to more cars in the hand of enthusiasts then that can only be a good thing. IMO of course.

GT3s will be seen as a safe haven if a recession comes for cash buyers.
Indeed and many interesting ICE cars will be as well.

Buy metal.!

With even higher inflation likely causing continuing rising new car prices serious erosion to cash piles and little upside in financial markets atm, certain cars (as well as property) are some of the most obvious safe havens and even IF we are to enter a recession it won't be anywhere near apocalyptic structural event of 2008 again contrary to what many of the usual doomongers are peddling.
No upside in financial markets , but upside in a piece of metal ? FM investments often generate returns . Cars just generate CO2

And sometimes it would have been better to just shove money under the mattress given my experience with an endowment mortgage from the early 90s. Anyway - probably best to plan to lose money on cars, including GT3s, and if one doesn't then it's all upside.

I hope you're right av185.

If my cars turn out to be investments, I can explain to the wife that I'm doing our retirement together a very great service by buying them

Rockhurst, earlier this year led the charge on .2 GT3 pricing.

They had an admittedly very clean Spanish car up at £167k, from memory.

They price high, and can wait. They have very deep pockets and no leverage.

That cleared the way for the 150k + cars.

Of course, they’re worth what people pay for them.

I think so.

"Darling - I've converted our entire pension pot to rare metal".

"Gold?"

"No. Mainly GT cars. Isn't that clever, as we can also enjoy them now!"

That's just a reason to buy many*, to keep the individual mileages low.

  • not that my pension has the funds to buy many

This 991.1 is seriously over priced:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202206287...

Why so expensive?
I know Guards Red has a premium but this car seems insane, I got mine at mates rates, but still if I sold mine I'd probably list it at 115-119k been a similar spec but also with interior carbon and full XPEL Ultimate, mine is on 16k miles and original engine, whereas this is on 8k miles and a G motor.

My car has 2yr warranty, so when my engine pops it is covered, just surprised to see a gen1 991 at such a toppy price, be shocked if it sells, someone can have mine for 10k less. biggrin

Just chancing on somebody confusing it with a 991.2

I'd have though any GT3 is somewhat educated and one been a 3.8 and the other a 4.0 easily gives it away......

If that car is C16 it must be one of the last 991.1 GT3s 15 65 plate.

No lift and plastic dash/door cards.

Guards red is indeed so pretty. biggrin

I dropped lucky with the spec as mine has extended leather, heated buckets, lifter, red belts and carbon interior.

I thought Guards Red was a bit marmite, and can tend to hang around for a while….thought the usual silver, black, grey, white are the preferred choice of the masses, with red, blue, yellow being less popular…..

Well the brighter rarer colours seem to always go for more and always sell.

Same old white cars just sitting around or end up cheapest in market to shift them whereas the red, blues and yellow are rarer but seem to sell when listed and at a premium, but not the kind of premium of 135k for a gen1 that is like 15-20k premium because it is red which is laughable.
