FWIW I am quite partial to a proper, 80’s Datsun Z.

There’s a company up north that does Singer-style versions of them. Henry C did a video review not too long ago, pretty cool but not for me

Had a look at the Porsche site this morning, there's 23 992 GT3's for sale, never saw that many 997 GT3's for sale on any given day over the years, they're really chucking them out now
IMHO there's not going to be sufficient used/enthusiast market to sustain them.
Sadly I think you may be correct.
I don’t think so either, there’s a lot in that space now eg. McLaren. If I was at that price level I’d be looking at 997.2 RS or even 458s personally

I think I’ve said this before, but a mate had a very nicely specked 458 spider. He sold it when the 488 launched, but before the drop top version arrived, so he got decent money. That was the theory.

By the time the dealer loaned him a hardtop so he could lock down spec on his spider, he and the market realised he’d sold the better car. He hated the 488. He couldn’t buy back his old car, or one similar, for anything like sensible money. In the end, he decided to switch to 812 because it might well have been the last of the NA V12’s.

As for 992, there is a lot of decent other metal, as you say. I like the AMG’s.

I usually keep a casual eye across a few dealers, checking in about weely, I didn't see this PTS 997.2 GT3 RS pop-up, but it's reserved already.

https://jzmporsche.com/cars/porsch-997-gt3-rs-p060...

They also have a 996 GT3 RS & 997.1 GT3 RS showing reserved as well.

I think AGAR looked at the red 997.2 GT3, which is still for sale and seems to have been for ages, but a black one has appeared and been reserved too.

I think, like a lot of their sales, it was more a case of they already had a buyer and asked a few owners if they wanted to sell. Nothing underhand about that of course and unless they did show these cars off, we’d be none the wiser. Nice just to see them.

Interesting on the subject of 997.2 GT3 RS a video on YouTube recently from Vin Tra, ex-of Hoonigan, talking about a $2k plus insurance quote for a track day. His words along the lines of I own the car but can’t really afford to use it as I’d like to.

Yeah i think partly as the excess was 25% of the cars value.

I've had a look at this - it would need to end cheap for it to be worth it as it's a highish mileage comfort spec, all the panels are significantly scratched and there's a fair amount of rust underside
