That's what I thought when I read the ad. I appreciate it's a Carrera but it's the rest of the recent history in terms of suspension and clutch etc. which would need to be known to help support whether a circa £20k asking price is right or not.By coincidence I know of a Hartech engined 996 manual Targa that will be for sale shortly (having had a full rebuild) plus suspension replacement and all the other important items you'd want done on a circa 20 year old car (including the roof).

Porsche Specialist AMS for Invictus Motors in Bishop Stortford did the rebuild. Are these well respected? It should be obvious if the clutch is new and gears should all feel lovely if it had a gearbox overhaul [not sure what this means] and then also a new 2nd gear and whatever else he mentions on top.
The problem with these cars seems to be market expectation that a good one is only worth 20k. That seems like madness to Me. I see a 25k car there minimum. Until the market wakes up these look an absolute bargain if you ask me.
But it seems that's always the case with threads like ours. Owners talk up prices and buyers talk them down. I guess this is just the same. I might go see this one. I'd be interested to try the Ohlins setup.

I may be wrong but I’ve always thought that there is a pool of owners who have the spare money to have it sitting in a 996 & once they get a good one they just keep it for a very long time because let’s be honest, if you have a good one, there is nothing out there that comparisons for the money.

Buying back my old Cayman is an option , ( cracking modded car ), as is buying a Hartech rebuilt 997 but I think hot 996 could be the way forward..If so I can either start with a cheapish solid base car and mod it or alternatively try to find a real beauty that's been done.. If I go the latter then will need to have high quality coil overs, seats, exhaust etc etc. If the opportunity arose then something with a 3.7 or 3.9 conversion would be great but these are few and far between..
To build from scratch will cost more as modding is generally a diminishing return however trying to find a modded car that's to my taste or seemingly justifies the price tag is tricky and I could be waiting a while..A CSR spec car would tick the box I think ..

The creaking is with vertical movement. Speed bumps, hard accel/braking etc. Steering left and right doesn't creak at all. Every inspection I've had (3 x inspections from 2 x garages) have said the same - dry bushes in the bottom arm (coffin arm). I had it changed, it still creaked, so the garage (local and well respected Pork specialist) changed it again and it STILL creaked It's almost a case of "they all do that sir"!
Top mounts then My 997.1 has the same issue but not got round to getting it booked in yet
