2007 Green Porsche 997 GT3 RS - Wise investment?
Discussion
My dream car is a Green 997 GT3 RS 2007, it's a car I would love to own one day, however good examples are over £200,000. So my question is... with manual GT3 Porsches going up and up is it worth investing in a car like this with say 50% cash 50% finance? I'm wondering if I would recoupe the finance costs and profit from this if I kept the car and dos relatively low mileage for 10 years?
My feelings are the 7.1RS will be more highly revered in the timeframe you mention, more so than the 7.2 which seems to have the popular vote today. Your money will be safe in a 7RS however, perhaps more importantly, the joy of ownership will massively outweigh any financial argument you put forward. Enjoy owning one of the most rewarding cars this side of a MacF1/CGT/Zonda
Thanks for the info guys! How does the GT3 RS differ from the GT3? I've found a we GT3 (2006) with 44,000 miles for £85k at the moment, is that kind of mileage too high for this car to keep its value if I added say 3k a year over 5 years? Basically I am wondering whether to get that now and the dream Green GT3 RS at a later date. Anyone driven/owned either or both?
Here's the car...

Let me get my crystal ball out for you...
It sounds like a huge gamble tbh, the market is in overdrive but can those prices be sustained and if not how many people will have their fingers burned? I know it's a dream car, it is mine too but when talking that sort of money my head would win over my heart and it would be property I'd be placing my money into.

Your absolutely right! That's why I'm considering the white one above instead, that way if I do lose money it'll be 65% less than I would of with the green gt3!It sounds like a huge gamble tbh, the market is in overdrive but can those prices be sustained and if not how many people will have their fingers burned? With respect I would go do some homework. Someone who starts a thread discussing laying down a bet on a £200K car but then asks the difference between a stock GT3 and a RS is a little...how can I say this politely...suspect.
If you want to invest in anything do your homework and some due diligence before purchase.

That mileage would be an issue unless you don't use it. These cars are mileage and spec sensitive so it would be one to use, hence killing any jnvestment you're planning. Unless you've got very deep pockets, investment cars are best left alone IMHO.
I had a mint CSL and I always felt I couldn't use it for fear of wrecking it or killing any price increase it would offer! I sold the car, invested it in a house and have seen great gains off the money than the car would have offered over the same term, though not as much fun obviously but refer back to my worry about using it so it's a catch 22.

Personally, I wouldn't buy for 'investment'.
A 997.1RS should always have a following from enthusiasts, but collectability is a fashion and can change.
Prices are at record highs, and whilst they may not crash, there are many factors that could see a correction. Yes, 'Green' is nice, but not worth the extreme premiums that some people try to seek. All IMO, of course.

I certainly wouldn't buy one with a 50% loan at these valuations. And buying one as an investment is not something that sits alongside enjoying it. There are plenty of these cars around with less than 15k miles on them and if you want to preserve value I'd say a max of 1k miles a year.
That said you've got the right idea with Viper Green!

Exactly! If you don't know the difference between the GT3 and the RS, you don't know the market that you are looking to invest £200k in....If you want to invest in anything do your homework and some due diligence before purchase.

To be fair, as someone who has driven all of them, and still have a green 7.1RS, sold a 7.2RS and also have a 991 RS, the differences once you get past the cosmetics are not that great between the 7.1 GT3 and the 7.1RS. Same engine, some weight saving, not a huge performance differential. I knew that at the time I bought my 7.1 RS new ( a 2008 model) new, but in all honesty I just loved the look of the car.The 7.2RS and the 991RS are in my experience more differentiated from their equivalent GT3s.
As for investment potential I have bo real idea...I tend to buy cars to drive rather than as investments. However I still really like the 7.1 RS so after almost 9 years of ownership I will probably keep it forever...

You guys have got it all wrong, yes of course I'm buying it to drive and enjoy it - it's my dream car above anything all I was asking is will it hold its value and carry on increasing?
There's only one way to find out...as I said in my earlier response, buy one now (this week I guess before prices go any higher) and see how it goes. Out of interest, who are you going to for the £100,000 loan? Have you had an agreement in principle from them? What's the rate? You could even buy the white one and get it wrapped in green!
What could possibly go wrong.
