997 gear selection issue (manual)

Hi - as I was changing gear in my 2007 C4S something "gave" and suddenly I was only able to move the gear lever directly between 3rd and 4th. Clutch seems fine. Does this sound like a broken shift cable? Or any other ideas? Many thanks!
