Hi - Its a first post from me, but i was wondering if anyone out there has had any issues with the .2's engine. I purchased the car ex-dem. from Sheffield OPC and have since covered 4k in it. In the first 3k it asked for a litre of oil which i thought was excessive, and then in the last 1k it has asked for another! I have witnessed smoke coming from the exhaust regularly and have had a huge plume billow from it after a 'spirited' exit from a slip-road. The car was booked in last week with them and the report that has come back says nothing is wrong, the oil usage is within tolerances and to quote 'this is common with a flat six engine sir" I am due to pick it up tomorrow, but this doesn't seem to sit right with me. Agreed, there is no oil leakage from the engine, but the blueish tinge from the exhaust would suggest something akin to turbo oil seals failing?

Ive just come from an M5 Competition Pack which used only 2 litres in 26k, and this naturally seems odd with the C2S. Am i being paranoid or is the OPC trying to fob me off?

Regards
Peter

Thanks Tuffer - its relevance i guess is that a modern engine should not consume oil at that level - especially if it has only seen road use

@SL550M no - its parked on a flat drive. I guess i'll just have to keep an eye on it. In the back of my mind ill always be wondering that its a first generation engine design and maybe all the niggles are yet to be ironed out

Well I'll pick her up tomorrow and keep an eye on things. Hopefully it will settle down and hope that it's not a frailty with the new engine. Thanks for the input folks.

Folks - i still seem to have an issue and i wanted some feedback from you. Below are two links to videos of the car being started. One is a first start in the morning and the second from a restart when the car was perfectly warm. You will see in the videos that the smoke produced is blueish indicating oil and although the smoke clears, my concern is that this should not be happening on a vehicle such as this. There have been many instances where the smoke produced is way more dense and of greater volume than that shown in the two videos; its just that i didn't have time to get back out of the car and video the damn thing.

OPC in sheffield are raising the issue with Porsche direct, but at the moment i am being told that this is "a feature of the flat six engine! and since i haven't owned a porsche before, i should not be concerned. Its produced as oil settles in the bores!" Is this a feature? does anyone else with a 991.2 have this? The car has bellowed smoke several times on a full bore upshift and I'm being told that this is normal.

The car has never seen a track and is only used on the road within normal operating parameters

Sorry for the questions, but this just doesn't seem right? - am i being fobbed off?

Cheers
Peter

thanks for the words guys...

ill leave you with the last video that truly shows how bad this issue is. The is a car that has been warmed up run for 10 miles and left for 10 minutes before starting, ambient temperature of 12 degrees, so not an atmospheric issue...Its truly awful...

It's just blown smoke regularly on the trip from Preston to Sheffield. Oil warning light chimed up again (less than 500 miles since its last fill up). I'd suggest it's goosed. Going to be an interesting meeting with them. My only issue is that it's on PCP as I wanted to free some cash up. Is this a dealer issue or VW financial services?

They've had one chance to fix it - which they didn't - and subsequent follow up was "they all do this ". I checked the features in the brochure and nowhere did it advertise a thirst for oil, smoke screen at will or the embarrassment of driving it.

Cheers

just an update to close this off. Took the vehicle back to sheffield on monday. Within the first 5 miles it had produced plenty of blue smoke at a roundabout and some erratic idling. Stopped for a ciggie on the snake pass and started the car to yet more smoke. Car delivered to the dealer with the affirmation that i had lost all faith in the product and i wasn't prepared to drive this vehicle again, and it was up to them how they resolved the situation by the end of the day. The upshot of it is that they confirmed that one of the turbos had given up the ghost and they were instructed by porsche to replace that and a raft of other items to bring it back to working order. This is a little concerning on a car with 11k on it.

With the message clear that i wasn't taking this car back, the dealer worked hard to secure the right deal for me to retain me as a customer. A deal was done and I'm delighted to say that i picked this up yesterday...

This was a cancelled customer order as he had been offered a GTS build slot and didn't want to lose that. At first i was concerned with the colour, but 24 hours later I'm delighted with it. I honestly believe that it will become a collectors colour in years to come. The reaction from people is amazing; so much more than my white one. OPC Sheffield did a great job from a customer service point of view and i can't wait to enjoy many miles in the car.

Cheers

cheers guys for the kind words. I think the niggle in the back of my head and the reason for rejection is possibly down to the fact that the original car was ex-demo. I have no idea how it was treated in its early days, and despite the bomb proof warranty, i didn't want to have a vehicle that wasn't treated well in its early days. Adding to that; the fact that i had taken it back to them with the same issues only four weeks earlier and they hadn't diagnosed it at that stage led me to believe they were negligent - or at least careless - in their original diagnosis, and thus this gave me more credibility to my rejection.
