Apologies if this is the wrong place for this.

I’m currently daily driving a 718 GT4 manual which I’m absolutely loving. It’s going to become my second car on the near future with the birth of my second son last week.

I’m in no hurry to change but I like to have something to aim for in the near future. Which despite having never been a Porsche person growing up now that I am one, I very much want to go deeper down the rabbit hole.

The issue is at the kind of price point I’m looking at there are quite a few options all quite similar. In the sort of 100-180k bracket.

The current possible list:

991.2 GT3
991.2 GT3 RS
991.1 GT3 RS
992 GT3
GT4 RS
Left field idea keep the GT4 get a 488 spider to go alongside it.

I sort of feel like it has to be a 911 as I have never had one and you could argue that’s what Porsche is all about.

They are similar ish money with technically the same engine? Did things change dramatically between them?

The trouble is I don’t really know how to split them as they obviously have a lot in common. Reviews aren’t really helpful as they all get 5 star superlative filled reviews.

So what are the key differences? What would you be going for in my shoes?

It will be a strictly early morning blast and a few trackday a year car. Very unlikely to be used for road trips.

Thanks for all the responses everyone much appreciated.

To answer a couple of queries of my thinking.

Car to take the kids out in is in the plan as well. VW Multivan on order for the wife freeing up her Model Y performance which will be going for something like an M3/M5/E63 etc. My life is touch more complicated as my eldest is quite severely disabled so family trips out in a special car aren't going to be a thing. I look at 2 seaters because my wife is awesome and actively tells me not to compromise on my cars as they are the one part of my life that isn't affected by our situation. They are very much my escape. Probably why I spend so much time planning and plotting my next moves.

I appreciate why supercars are being suggested, however I see GT Porsches very much as top hole sport cars and super cars are something different. Thats not to say I don't want a supercar but its something I would want alongside a GT3/4 not instead of.

To give you the full grand 20 year plan to Ntiz motoring nirvana. The garage would be as follows:

Sportscar probably GT3 shaped.
Supercar idealy convertible probably Ferrari shaped.
Alfaholics GTAr built for me to my dream spec
Classic race car eligible for Spa and leman. Something like a Lotus 23, Elan, Austin Healey 100S.
My dads pre war Bentley. I will lose the house before I let that go.

As you can see I have put wwwaaaaayyyyyyy too much thought into it all. I am deadly serious about achieving it though.

Are the RS cars that much different to the "normal" GT3? They aren't that much lighter or more powerful but obviously look pretty wild (which I like). I think the main reason I would be looking to get out of my current GT4 is the desire to try the GT engine as it seems to be held up as one of THE great engines out there.

I do like a manual but im not sure I would be willing to stump up considerably more cash to have one. As seems to be the case with 991.2?

Thanks for reading my ramblings.
