981 CGTS vs 718 CGTS 4.0 steering

I'm currently running a 2014 981 CGTS, manual. I'm considering switching to the new 4.0.
I'm interested primarily in any steering feedback changes between the two cars. Have Porsche significantly improved the steering "feel"? Any input from people who've driven both would be much appreciated.

Thin on the ground, but been a lot of 2nd hand ones already.
My OPC said they will get a demo and do have a python one in the showroom, let’s hope it ends up on the demo fleet, shame about it’s spec other wise I would already own it.
Mine will be a big spec car but still £10k cheaper than a GT4.
£79k on the nose with buckets etc.
Demo's should be a available soon one hopes, but a few have P zero tyres which is not great.
Quick geo, some 7mm wheel spacers as they look a bit thin vs the GT4 wheels and if I gel with it as a keeper, a short final drive gear set down the line.
On paper the car looks pretty perfect bar the gearing.
PDK owners will have close to a perfect sports car.
Not cheap though, my GT4 fully speced was £74k !

I'm also considering a Python 718GTS next spring but undecided on a Boxster or Cayman. AFAIK the only buckets now available are the LWBS which you hate. ETA PDK on the GTS is a big no-no to me as it costa £2K and adds a not unsubstantial 30KG to the car.

I had a loan of a 4.0 for the day. Steering feel is 'okay' as current Porsches go, not a patch on the older cars or something like a Lotus but you do have a bit of a sense of what's going on. I used to have a CGTS but it was that long ago I annoyingly can't remember how they compare. The 4.0 is a bloody good car though. Probably the best road car Porsche currently sell.

options not available in 2015 when I got one of the 1st Uk Gt4's.
But yes annoying they are the only option.
Boxster a great option but costs more and less rigid and they do let in wind noise still. Car would be my daily and do 12k pa.
Hence I need all the spec as I use every thing I option.
Plus if it were mega it would last over 2 years as along termer.
I do need to test drive one though 1st.

Like yourself I’m also seriously considering a manual Boxster GTS 4.0 in the spring ETA PDK on the GTS is a big no-no to me as it costa £2K and adds a not unsubstantial 30KG to the car.

There is a lot of head room with the 4.0.
Porsche made it meaty so they can easily turn it up for the RS without too much more effort.

it's certainly faster/sharper but the OP specifically asks about feel. i've only driven a 718 base and an S for a few days and it was a good year ago i would think. i liked the faster steering but i don't remember being blown away by any additional feel.Not GT3 good though.
After owning a 981 S for a long time I had a good drive of a demo 718 GTS. The steering is certainly much better, though there wasn't any 'feel' as such.
It won't chatter away in your hands, but it feels much better weight wise with less of a numb spot off centre. Everything is an upgrade aside from the engine realistically.

early 991 and 981 the dead centre spot was dire and lacked any feel what so ever the 718 GTS I had had far better feel all round than the 981's.
I did a vid of the early cars here in 2012 and they had a massive dead area straight ahead !

Do you want a steering wheel jittering about like a 996 GT3 RS no, imo that's not feedback that's a non compliant mess due to over stiff Shocks and ARB's every bumps rips the steering wheel out of your hand untill you hit 120 mph odd and the cars tries to throw you off the road !
some call that feedback, I called it non compliant. (I did tame it with softer ARB settings in the end but the car still does not work for very fast road driving)
Although knowing what I do now a 996 GT3 with softer ARB , nice shocks and a short final drive would be a nice thing, but a 997.1 GT3 is a better car to start from imho, a much better chassis and the 1st GT3 not to have lift.
EPS went too far in 2012 and had no feel what so ever, gen 1 programming, we must be on gen 4 or 5 by now, my 2015 991.1 GTS was still crap and I had to sell it, a 2015 car, such a shame as I loved the 435hp x51 3.8 engine.
My 981 GT4 was good in the dry and less so in the wet.
the 981 Spyder while a much smaller dead spot, still had nothing worth talking about in feel, you got to learn the car and turn in on faith !!!
hence any 981 Spyder review on how good a drivers car it is is hybole bullst :-) all it had was a faster rack but it was a 981 GTS with a 3.8 nothing more. I still don't get the hype today on it.
My 991.2 GT3 was the best of the lot but still lacked that edge untill I mono-balled the st out of it, now it feeds back every thing you need, with EPS filtering out the jiggle aspect. So in my car I can feel the road surface change via the wheel, a 1st with EPS imo but now not oem.
It is as good as my 987.2 Spyder with monoballs, no !! that is the best feel of anything I have owned bar a Noble 3R, Enough jitter and 100% feedback.
Lotus offer it all, but with the new cars and Massive tyres they are staring to feel a bit too messy on UK B roads with the steering moving about like a 996 GT3, all that is great if you go on a smooth track, but on UK B roads it gets too much.
where the 4.0 GTS will fit in who knows as a lot of people had no issue in 2012 but if you look at my vid, it's best not to listen to any good reviews about 981 and 991.1 cars as the EPS was utter dog ***** and had no place in a sports car, to a point my golf has more feel.
I am not anti EPS now for road use if it's as good as my monoballed GT3. But you won't get than in a 718 sadly well not in the 718 GTS I had :-( I am hoping the 718 4.0l GTS has got a bit of GT DNA in the eps. why Porsche don't fit GT eps to the 991.2 and 992 normal cars is just daft and stops me ever buying most new Porkers or even lusting after one :-(
If the 4.0L GTS has the eps nailed it will be the modern take Cayman R I am sure of it. If it's lacking then that's a great shame.
