GTS 4.0 Engine Failure
Discussion

This worries me a bit as it started with the whole engine replacement programme for new factory cars built early 2021 and now we have started to hear of random failures of the 4.0 engine in the 718, are we seeing another episode similar to the 996/997.1 failures??
What with PADM issues across all models since 9x1, turbo failures of 991.2/992, windscreen issues on 992 and so on, add to that the dealership game playing and overs market of recent years it doesn’t inspire one to purchase a modern Porsche!
Dont buy one then, no worries !What with PADM issues across all models since 9x1, turbo failures of 991.2/992, windscreen issues on 992 and so on, add to that the dealership game playing and overs market of recent years it doesn’t inspire one to purchase a modern Porsche!
Yes other sports car brands are just as bad but with the advent of the 9x7.2 apart from the hpfp failures I thought Porsche were over the earlier 10 years of chocolate engines/parts but it’s like they are going backwards. Yes I accept you will get the odd random problem but most of the new problems are not a case of if but rather when (padm/991.2/992 turbos spring to mind)
Yes you can take out the warranty but who wants to spend a day on the hard shoulder if you are on your way on holiday etc! Then to be treated in an appalling manner by some OPC and not see your car for 2 months!
I had an engine failure in 2007 on a 3.5year old car it was just out of warranty but it was replaced FOC in under 2 weeks and that was over the Xmas period. Now that’s what you call customer service unlike what I am reading of peoples experiences of recent times.

I've never had an issue with any OPC or new Porsche and coincidentally the only issue I had was with a used 2008 model C4S cab which suffered piston slap at 12k miles despite a full OPC history me being the second owner and not buying fromthe official Porsche network either.Yes you can take out the warranty but who wants to spend a day on the hard shoulder if you are on your way on holiday etc! OPC rebuilt the engine over Xmas too despite being just outside warranty and I ran the car for 6 months without any problems whatsoever.
If any OPCs dicks you about then best advice is to find another there are plenty of them and increasingly very good ones despite what folks post and it is worth pointing out as usual its only the below par ones that tend to make the news.

Porsche haters and skeptics could always sink their hard earned into an ultra reliable and glacial depreciating Aston, Mclaren or Lotus......
Do any of those kill you if you try to avoid a pothole, perhaps due to the poor handling characteristics?981Boxess said:
I honestly didn’t get this, have I missed an earlier pothole episode or anything else so this makes any sense?
Chap was sadly killed avoiding pothole in his GT2, state of the roads I feel for people on bikes / motorcycles you hit some of the ones out there with out noticing your in big trouble !GT4P said:

Do you seriously think any garage would hand a car back after an engine swap without being confident the cooling system was fully bled?
Once you have bled it, run the car up and cooled it down untold times and the heater is working properly the mechanic would assume it is fully bled.
If there is still an air lock somewhere which obviously cannot be seen and isn’t ‘easy to find’ how would they know, it isn’t going to come up on a scanner?
Having rads and engines at opposite ends just makes it a harder job, no matter who does it, before the inevitable OPC bashing starts.
Yes, they're difficult to bleed, we all know thatOnce you have bled it, run the car up and cooled it down untold times and the heater is working properly the mechanic would assume it is fully bled.

However that in no way excuses an OPC for not checking it was bled correctly before handing it back, does it
OP has said the fans blew cold, so they clearly didn't run it up and check all was well before handing it back

Small but important difference.

No, the OP said the fans blew cold once the 100 mile issue presented itself, it may well have been working perfectly well when it was handed over.
Small but important difference.
The small but important difference is that he never said it worked fine on handoverSmall but important difference.
100 miles after it was returned it didn't, so it clearly wasn't bled properly by the OPC concerned
Quite straightforward really
