I think a full delete car with PCCBs and all the right bits is the dream.

I’d happily enjoy a full delete car, and should I ever need some music, that’s what headphones are for. ??
I could happily live with PCM delete but no AC would be brutal, imagine that of late! smile

Wearing headphones while driving is a bad idea, and now we know how bad
Ford undertook a study to see how much wearing headphones messes with your spatial recognition.

Would very happily trade my PCM (and A/C if I had it) for PCCB’s.

Peridot press car looks fantastic.

interesting it doesn't have chrono considering it was a press car.
Seems a lot of love for it.

Personally I don't think it will sell easily but it'll probably be sold sharpish going by the feedback here.

I wasn't saying categorically that the track use makes it less desirable - more so opening up that topic for debate. Seems like I caused some knee jerks there - that wasn't my intention.

If it was 2013/14 maybe people would still want a track focussed R, but these days I sense the customers are more like me - Sunday drivers. But I wish them luck with the sale - it is a peach.

TBH i havent driven it of late as even i dont want to be in it at 41 deg. Having said that, i live in the UK that has 3 hot days per anum, so if i dont drive the car on those days, so be it. The rest of the time, if youre moving, its zero issue and ive never had the much talked about steaming windows or cold morning fog etc. All poppycock.

Let’s not forget the Sasso car - a low mileage warrantied serviced car with great spec but no aircon

It took 6 months to sell and there were at least 5 pages of comments from people saying don’t buy a car without a.c. !

Now maybe trends come and go but that wasn’t long ago and suddenly a lwt spec Peridot is lustworthy

Full delete is pointless, IMO

I was at Spa last week, and certainly wouldn't have fancied doing it without Aircon in those temperatures

PCM, well it may not be great but most of us listen to music at one time or another, and headphones are not a good idea

Of course full delete is how they got to the headline lower weight, but none of us here are good enough to be able to feel the difference in the car with or without aircon on road or track

  • I say that as someone who came from a heavily modified 964 with no aircon or stereo smile

I know this is thread is for all things R, but I thought i would share this listing of a sensational Speed Yellow Gen 2 S which I have never seen in that colour since I was looking for my R some 3 years ago.

S wise this is as rare as it gets. It is stunning. If you think about it, in this colour, it is rarer than an R!

Back to the track use debate. Anyone who has an R and hasn’t tried it on track really needs to give their head a wobble. They are great little cars on track, an almost perfect beginner track car. They are fast but not silly fast, very well balanced, great steering and brakes, robust and reliable, no quirks or vices. There are also some simple and fairly cheap mods which give noticeable improvements which are quite satisfying as an owner driver. Some track work perhaps with tuition is a good way of gaining confidence and growing skills on the road as well.
I think there are quite a few previous R owners who have “moved up” to more serious track cars after growing out of their R’s.
With a proper maintenance schedule an R is more than capable of a few track days per year without any undue worries. It’s stone chips that are the worst PITA. mad

Agreed, I went CR -- GT4 -- Modified GT4 -- reliable, capable, inexpensive fun (comparatively as pace increases !!)

A lot of the modifications to my GT4 were as much about minimising consumables as increasing pace ... and I think I am now getting slower (unless I can prove otherwise) so stepping back into classic track transport (944 Turbo Cup) ...

All a fantastic experience ...

Not been on here for a very long time, but I return to the same old discussions 😂 I specced my R new without AC, based mainly on the fact that I used it about once a year in my 911.

Sure, I wouldn’t want to be driving it in 41 degree heat, but with air that hot no sports car will be particularly happy or performing at its best anyway. Even my daily driver, which does have AC, very rarely has it turned on, and only then due to passengers or maybe a long, hot motorway trek.

I also went without PCM when I bought mine because it’s a god awful system. Eventually fitted a Kenwood system with wireless CarPlay for the best entertainment and NAV options.

And yes, winter with no air con has never been a problem. If it was, every car my parents owned back in the ‘70s and ‘80s would have sat on the driveway for months of the year since pretty much nothing had AC back then 🙄

2 year Major Service
New Discs and Pads
Replaced rear brake light in rear window
New wipers scuttle (it had faded badly and that GTech potion had taken it as far as it could)
New wipers
Alternator issue sorted (was a wire issue)

and a great blast around Oxfordshire before heading back to London.

...plus a great walk around of the classics at Autofarm - their Trinidad RS (last ever right-hand drive 1973 Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 to roll out the factory) is coming together. if you don't know the story on it, there is a great YT series on it

The R is a great track car as you say Chris and as you already know they are very capable of embarrassing far more expensive machinery.

From your experience what upgrades did you make? Is the preferred track tyre still Cup 2 or something else ? I am on track at Thruxton tomorrow. TIA

My car currently runs with front wheel spacers, Center of Gravity did the geometry, Giro discs, high temp brake fluid, upgraded pads but I cannot remember which, sorry, and the ubiquitous Cup2 tyres. It’s absolutely great to drive. It’s as much as I can get away with and not have any issues with my Porsche extended warranty. smile
