Yes in terms of functioning I understand.
Wonder if the AC compressor is different, could well be a low spec on manual HVAC.

What matters for me is the noise (hate noisy compressors) and cold temperature in a hot summer (I do prefer powerful AC that cool down the cabin in few secs)
I wouldn't imagine the difference in performance to be much, if at all, just one system automatically keeps the cabin at your chosen temperature, the other requires you to manually adjust the temp......

I talked to him about the GTS Black Exterior package and have the wing mirrors fully in yellow. The Exterior package turns the fairly cheap looking standard matt plastic black parts, into a glossy finish which will go with my glossy black Carrera S wheels. You can have the wing mirrors fully body coloured along with the side venting, but to me that is taking away some of the black accents of the GTS. For me it was either the glossy GTS exterior package or the body coloured wing mirrors so I'm going with the GTS exterior package.

......
The standard finish is not black plastic. It's a smooth satin black paint finish to all of the front bumper plastic parts and the rear diffuser and looks really good against a solid colour like Carmine red.

Not surprised you come from a 997 GTS, I drove this car and I found the sound very disappointing…
Stick or Twist: Carrera GTS to Cayman GTS?

I loved my 997 GTS for 3+years- it is a great car and best of the 997 generation. Was fantastic for ownership - especially as my first Porsche.
But I always thought that the Cayman could be a great car for me. I liked the proposition but didn't like the styling of the 987 back in 2011 - but then the 981 came.
I finally decided drive a Cayman S back in June this year as I was starting to get the itch - and that was the end.

The sound, responses and fun all much more readily accessible - and finally it looked fantastic too with an identify all of its own.

If its not black plastic, what is it? They had a Boxster GTS there with the standard "black plastic" and it looked positively dull and cheap next to a car that had the gloss GTS exterior. Having seen a colour coded car, the standard GTS finish and the GTS gloss exterior finish, I decided that if I didn't have the gloss GTS pack that I would have it colour coded, as completely standard it looked dull and cheap to me......I've chosent the gloss black Carrera S wheels so the GTS exterior pack fits with that glossy finish....

I've gone with the gloss black carrera s wheels also (GT Silver car), but not the GTS exterior pack - just too paranoid about chipping.
My first modification will be Xpel protective wrap on the front end and bonnet.

I'll be looking something like this - minus the rear wiper! This car does appear to have the exterior pack.

those wheels really date it and give it a 987.2 look, and while the best wheel for the 987.2 not sure why people are fitting it to the 981.

this car NEEDS the "Sports Techno wheel" :-)

Not really.

I wasn't overly keen on the Techno wheels yesterday, a bit plain in the flesh and actually looked a bit "aftermarket" to me......

Anyone with dual zone? What is the difference in terms of climate system performance between the single zone and dual zone? I don't care about dual, opted for single but wonder if is low speced.
There's no single zone climate.

It's single zone manual, or dual zone climate.

I thought long and hard about car colour and wheels - my options were Sapphire Blue vs GT Silver, Sport Techno vs Carrera S

In the end I decided that the Sapphire Blue does looks great now but will i still love it in a couple of years time?
The sport techno wheel seemed 'too heavy' from a visual point of view and a bit 5 spoke generic - the only way to break that up is to then get them coloured which i've seen a few times in the metal and looks pretty garish and indeed a bit aftermarket - not in a good way.
To me the Sport Techno wheel is the one that will date and seem stuck in the era. Look at the previous version of the sport techno... to my eye, time hasn't been kind to it.

I wanted a classic Porsche race car look. For me, GT silver is the colour for that - the Carrera S wheel is just a slight revision of a design that has stood the test of time and Porsche have just made minor revisions to for each generation it is used upon - typical Porsche ethos - evolution vs revolution, classic.

The standard finish as I mentioned is not untreated black plastic. It is painted with a satin black paint to give a smooth, untextured finish. Unfortunately it is just as vulnerable to stone chipping as the gloss black paint I'm afraid. The gloss back option is just a different surface paint finish (gloss vs satin) so once again Porsche are charging a considerable sum of money just to change one type of paint for another when the application process for both is the same and the material costs involved are no different. In fact the gloss black is probably cheaper for them to produce as they don't have to mask off theses areas when applying the top lacquer coat, something they will have to do for the standard satin finish. You have to hand it to them for being masters are this. I fell for it by paying the silly price for Carmine red which is also just an upscale charge for a product that does not differ from the free standard non metallic colours in anything other than it's pigment. Glad I did though.

the standard AC is basic beyond belief .. there is no temperature control by the system. So, if you set the 'temp' at the middle bit, the car just puts out middle bit amounts of cooling/heating regardless of cabin or external temperature. Utter pants.

Correct - It is a heater/cooler fan with an A/C function - it is not climate control at all.

I think those are the best wheels, but not black.
Satin platinum looks great against any colour and brings the wheel design to the fore.

I also like the Techno (having had the first Techno's on my 911) but agree that they look 'heavy'.

I need to stop reading this thread, each time I do it makes me question my choices. But in the end they are that my choices, not for re sale just for me.The good news today is my car is finished and on the boat next Friday, a week early or 3 weeks late depending on whether I use the date pre or post sales. But only 2 weeks now and I really can't wait.

Our cars are production buddies! Mine was completed this week too
So how long do the Porsche Centre need the car to prepare it for sale? Presumably there's a pre-delivery inspection, DVLA registration, maybe some software loading of UK options?
