I think the 718 GT4 will be a good car, but basically a point upgrade over the old one with uglier looks wink

It would be a shame IMHO if no choice given between MT-PDK.

There are al kind of options possible when buying a Porsche, why not on transmission?

If I want to pay that kind of money, I want to spec the car as I wish.

If no 718 GT4 PDK available I`m out of the game.

The Rennlist poster who races a ClubSportm is getting the new CS and was at Weissach last week states that it's manual only for the GT4 and Spyder. He also states the engine is a stroked version of the old 3.8 sporting a 4.0 capacity and 420bhp.

Given his previous posting info and reputation, I'm accepting his info as correct.

Agree— the Rennlist poster has previously proven correct with his “insider knowledge”.... wink He speaks in riddles, but has just seen the car at Weissach in person....

Twinfan— Do you think Whoopsy is specifically stating the new GT4 motor will be a stroked upgrade to 4L, and is therefore definitively ruling out a de-tuned GT3 4L engine..... The riddles are cryptic, and I can’t decipher whether he is definite on whether the new motor is an upgraded 3.8, or a downgraded 4.....!!

As we're taking about manual (I hate this whole Spanish 'manuel' thing arghh) if you want the best manual gearbox stick to the GT4.
The 991.2 GT3 manual is ok bit not amazing imo, certainly not as good as the GT4's which is sweeeeeet, ratios aside which I don't mind anyway.

GT3 is less good and I own both....

^ yep, what cmoose said. It will basically be the old engine stroked to 4.0 litres.

And new, on the used market (if that makes sense smile) you'll be paying well over 100k for the privilege...
I also think its going to be less pretty, too much defuser, and possibly too aggressive on the front bumper side of things.

The Gen 1 is nicely proportioned

^^^ Agree 100%......

New car is defo uglier and fatter..... If the 981GT4 can relatively easily be tuned up to 420 horses (which it can), why bother with the new model..... Increasingly not seeing the point of this new GT4 tbh....

If you'd like/want to spec your own car than the new one will be up your street. it might be for me if the spec is right and I can get an allocation.

If you have the 981 version, it's probably not worth the swap IMHO.

Whoopsy mentioned that the engine will be unique to the 718 GT4 at launch.... it was a fairly ambiguous as to whether this is unique to GT4 only, or GT4 and Spyder as pair, or even the GT4 road car and the race car as that is what he went to see.

As has been said.. from the current shots and extrapolated renderings, the 981 GT4 is much better looking... not sure how much of a jump the new car will be hp aside.. as the 3.8 can be upgraded to a similar level anyway. So advancements boil down to tyre improvement and anything they add on the chassis side. I've registered my interest - but i won't be clamouring after one on the overs market if i don't get offered. The 981 GT4 is a great car - after having 2x981s, GTS and now GT4, I'd probably be moving to something else in the range.

Indeed! There will still be a scrabble for allocations no doubt...

I think the final car may have a hint of GT2RS about it's looks, which to me wouldn't be a bad thing.

I've read Whoopy's recent posts with great interest, and despite using my very best deduction skills, i remain just as confused due to the open ended cryptic nature of his clues..

Yep, I mentioned this a while back when we saw the first shots of the new front bumper.. it has the aero skirt type devices in front of the front wheels to clean up the air that falls out of the wheel well - which may affect the stream in to the side intakes - also helps with drag reduction.

Personally have always felt since before the 981 GT4 was in mule testing that they should have made this a mini-GT2....but again for the position in the brand vs price they would be limited on how much performance it would be allowed to have.

Will the RS if built have this engine or the GT3 engine?

I'm guessing you could PowerKit this non-GT3 4.0 engine and get the extra 20-30PS you'd need for an RS version. Putting the GT3 engine in, with a detune via the ECU, wouldn't be something Porsche would do as it would be too easy to unleash it. There would need to be hardware restrictions too.

Guys in the US already do this ...X51 PowerKit on top of 4.0L version of the 3.8 + race headers or high flow 200cell cat headers + Cobb Protune.

You get top end sparkle from the Powerkit on the intake side, and uplift in torque everywhere as a result of 4.0L and Headers.

The forumla is know... just a case of whether or not Porsche would ever do an OEM version of this and stick a warranty on it. Tuners don't have to provide the same level of warranty.
