Ok, so I have had a bit of time behind the wheel now in the R and here are my initial thoughts.
It's a really good road car, the damping is superb for the type of B road driving that I tend to have a spirited drive on and seems to absorb the bumps and undulations with ease, without any harshness or crashiness that i have had on more track focused cars, and then when backing off and just pootling along it's a nice smooth docile ride.
The gearing is also just about right, I get to use pretty much all of second and third gears when pressing on through the Kent countryside on a well sighted road that i know well, without being in triple digit speeds, the engine sounds great with the PSE switched on without any droning on the motorway home.
Steering feel is as good as anything i've driven and transmits just the right amount of information back to your hands, while the handling is truly fantastic. Leaning into fast bends at a decent rate the car has lots more available than i have either bottle or skill, I'm sure as i get to know the car better my confidence will increase and the cars true prowess will shine. The weight difference between the R and my C4S is immediately noticeable, both in feel and acceleration particularly as they are almost the same with regards power output.
The interior is a lovely place to be in the buckets (though i could do with losing a few pounds to improve this) it's just all finished very nicely, very Porsche.
Overall very impressed with what was a real impulse buy, I saw Viper Green and had to have it, especially as it was at 911 Virgin who are a joy to deal with, A big thanks to Tom for his fantastic service as always, if you want a car in a specific spec it might be worth giving him a call and letting him know so that he can call you when one is due before it hits the website?
As is often mentioned 911 Virgin are a top rate outfit and I can't recommend them strongly enough.

Indeed it is. It was a perfect photo opportunity to get my ex-R next to my GT4 when my good friend and new owner of the R collected it.
Have to admit.. i've been a little bit of a Cayman R dismisser before... but i do now reckon that these already are and will increasingly become a real gem in brand for aficionados. I have always loved the size and sleekness of the thing...but still with a bit of purpose.
My spec would be White with the Black (Silver pinstripe) Spyder wheels, Buckets, Manual, PSE.
Only thing i would do it would probably be up-rate the brakes and put the OEM parts in a box, and add short-shift if it didn't have it.

quite new Ps4S tyres, bosche battery, and just had belts and full service done at OPC so full upto date OPC file.
I am keeping the GT3 which was not the long term plan so it's going to have to go :-(

David, you've finally made a decision on the R so get it advertised and lets see how quickly a good spec private sale car takes to move.....quite new Ps4S tyres, bosche battery, and just had belts and full service done at OPC so full upto date OPC file.

Surprised Jim hasn't done a deal with you.
By the way - your GT3 looks stunning and I would be keeping it if fortunate enough to have one!

I am very pleased to have owned both. Loved my time with the R and now in the GT4. Have to say that the 4 edges it though. I have always loved the size and sleekness of the thing...but still with a bit of purpose.

I've asked for further info inc full spec and history but not got a reply, guess he's been holding off until the GT3 decision was made. Surprised Jim hasn't done a deal with you.

Still time but I'm looking at 2 potential cars at the moment...

HI Jim , thought I sent you the spec, maybe I just listed it on here sorry, and thought you really wanted a oem car with N spec tyres battery etc.Still time but I'm looking at 2 potential cars at the moment...
which I said is possible but at greater costings and a load of hassle but do able at a push.
Mine will be available in about 3 weeks my best mate wants it as it happens, but I am not sure that will happen but I have given him 3 weeks.
I think the white one with 18k at £48k is a great buy, ie the Knowlhill car a rare car that with sub 20k miles.
that's also a close mirror image spec for spec of mine btw I have BOSE, cup holders, plus red belts/door pulls extra I guess but mines on 29k miles, mine is also a 2012 , 12 plate car so a bit newer, one of the last off the line.
I have not forgotten you :-) just tricky times with mates wanting it and stuff and I need to move the 981 Spyder 1st.
If the Knowlhill cars checks out I would be all over it as a R buyer unless you really want BOSE, I love the system over oem and I missed it in the GT4, so re speced it in the new GT3, it's a good upgrade if you have music on in the car for sure.

Hi David, as a private sale with no come back, a warranty is a must, unfortunately. The Knowl Hill car is lovely, but not without aircon.
mine has full Climate , missed that on the other white one.As I said doable via my OPC, but then it would be Porsche OPC prices at £48k, if I were to fit N spec tyres, Moll battery and add a OPC warranty.
I would rather it go at £46k as is with the best tyres available today and a battery which won't leave the buyer stranded lol.
3rd party warranty's are not worth the paper they are written on 1/2 the time, most big players self warranty now, they won't let on they do this, but that's how most work with a middle man/firm to vet the calls, it's like some industry secret !!!!

Nice advert, all looks up to date except for any mention of air filter change which is needed at 6 years (that's according to Porsche schedule but in my experience it should be changed more often as by then it's really dirty. You get a very noticeable change in throttle response when you change it).Video here: https://youtu.be/RbFduc1KkC0
