Now that you've had your R a while... how do you find it vs the 981 GTS?
No idea, I've never owned a 981 GTS, I've been a passenger in one but could not make a comparison of the two from that.

That would be like Slippydiff sitting in a Carrara GT and making Brum Brum noises and having an opinion on how it drives. blah

Ah beg your pardon then... I thought you start the Cayman GTS thread and thought you had followed through on a purchase at that time, but I got you mixed up with Budweiser .... never mind then... as you were.

White manual CR up at RPM Technik.

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Good spec car with all the right bits, although even if it came with a free private jet and Maldivian island some wouldnt be happy with it. biggrin

Cant reccomened RPM Technik enough, my R came via them and they were polite, professional and genuinely made me feel very valued as a customer. My R has only ever been back there since and the service provided by them has always been superb.

as a drivers car it's missing the Sports crono and the Short shift

as a daily it's missing BOSE, Bluetooth for phone and cup holders

:-p but yep it has the basics and looks great and while I think is has great tyres, they are not N spec so it will put certain people off lol.

I guess it's had new tips as they are black not chrome, but I guess they have been redone as the chrome ones do go off.

Nice basic car over all. As I use mine a lot I DO use all those 5 missing options all the time mind you.

Appreciate we all have our 'ideal' spec, preferred mileage / owners etc but there clearly is very few 'ideal' spec cars out there with the options people are seemingly looking for and any cars new to the market all seem to have something missing be it AC, factory PSE, Alacantara, Short Shift, Chrono etc etc.
We don't have the figures for manuals with all the preferred spec but its obviously not many!
The 1 compromise on mine was lack of Nav / Bluetooth etc but it was soon rectified by a new head unit with far superior Garmin nav, phone, Apple carplay etc for less than £750 all in.

yep you can buy a lot of stuff 3rd party but it's 3 times the cost.

Chrono is £800, a short shift is £500, PSE £2.5k, a new head unit £750, tyres £1k, cup holders £400, Spyder wheels £5k, Buckets seats £9k
I guess for £750 you did not by new speakers or amps, BOSE is bloody good in the R imo once adjusted. Some people hate music some love it.

So yep you can make a car have the spec if it has bits missing of course but then it's never oem come sale time and for a rare car going up in value that's now also an issue to look at. Also no Porsche dealer will take it back !

I have put mine out to a few people under the radar, about the 3rd question is , "is it oem" even my battery causes issue's when you have to say no !

I'm not big into music so no uprated speakers etc - to be fair the nav and phone were important and the carplay is very easy to use. Also its completely reversible so the original awful OE head unit can be refitted if so desired. My car runs non N-rated Michelin Supersport tyres and a Bosch battery too but I have no interest in the extended warranty so doesn't bother me.

Some of the prices to retro fit some of the other desirables are WOW!

yep you can see why the must haves for most are Spyders and buckets ;-)

the odd thing people don't mind buying. I had Crono fitted to my 987.2 Spyder, just because I like the throttle response more with it on and it gives a bit of Slip angle in Sports mode.

my last R did not have CUP holders, the new owner fitted those to it.

Radio for you etc etc, very few have it all so it's best to go in thinking the cars basics are there , I can always fit that later !.

This ^ But I guess it depends on whether the potential purchase is a daily driver or not.
I'm super critical about the spec of my daily drivers, but when it comes to weekend toys, I'm buying the car for the driving experience, thus nav, upgraded sound systems, PSE etc add little or nothing to the basic driving experience, they've merely become tick box accessories lauded for their resale potential.

Sure the Turbo wheels aren't as aesthetically pleasing when compared to the Spyder wheels, but how many could tell the difference in unsprung weight ? I'd be amazed if you couldn't find a lighter, better quality forged wheel for less than the cost of a new set of Spyder wheels ?

I get seat choice is critical to some (though there are far superior aftermarket seats than the folding buckets) sure they're not OE and they don't have the bling factor, but they'd be far more supportive and cheaper, and if you're not planning on selling anytime soon, what's the issue with a properly executed custom install ?
Likewise I appreciate that gearbox choice is non-negotiable.

I know David and I frequently don't see eye to eye, but my guess is his car is the creme de la creme of CR's, and whether or not it's warrantable or not out of the box is neither here nor there. I've no doubt it's a superbly spec'ed, well cared for, well fettled car with a few non OE parts that could easily be removed to gain an official warranty.

As I said before, we're a long time dead and midsummer's day has come and gone... In eight short weeks, the late summer bank holiday will be upon us, with all that it entails.
Oh yes, and prices will no doubt continue to rise as this thread proves to be self perpetuating as it highlights the lack of cars with the "correct" spec....

Had the Sport button / software retrofit done at Reading OPC for a lot less than £800 - it was £680 all in, as I remember.

I phoned around a few OPCs and the difference in quotes was quite scary. In the end OPC Swindon came in the with best price, which Reading then matched.

Pretty sure if you're driving the car the way it's meant to be driven, there would be no liquid left in the cups after very long even if you did have them hehe
