Sure, Boxster vs Cayman makes a difference in how you spec it.
I’d agree. Also some exterior colours don’t look as good as others with the interior package painted. No point having this option with a silver exterior colour as the standard trim is silver. Looks stunning in Miami blue - the colour wasn’t available on 981 without delays and paying a king’s ransom i have always wondered why people focused on details like dual climate control, sat nav, speed control etc... on sports car...
get out, drive and get lost!!
never used climate control on mine,
sat nav i use waze, 10000x better!
what i use is PSE, x71 bucket seats gearbox brake wheels and throttle rooooarrr just enjoy

The 981 is such a great baseline that like for like I would choose a car with those options over one without ie they are worth having.get out, drive and get lost!!

I don't accept the waze argument, having directions pumped to the 3rd binnacle with real time traffic beats faffing about with a phone any day to me.
Of course no two cars have the same options but there are certain ones that like for like make the difference between two cars. Having a luxury sports car without what could reasonably be expected to be basics I simply can't understand. I can understand the argument for not having aircon v having aircon on a sports car on wieght grounds (but not a 981 which is not a track car) but arguing you don't need climate over simply aircon / it makes no difference I don't accept. Of course it makes a difference and to a 2nd hand buyer at no extra cost as prices don't reflect whether a car has it or not. I simply would not have bought a 981 without dual climate, I waited for one with the right spec including it.
you'd be amazed how the 981 behave on track although it is not a track car... it is very capable. no issue in following gt3/991 turbos... the chassis is just wonderful
i mentionned waze, even if you do not like it it is much better than stock sat nav... there are many products like garmin/tomtom that are 10000x better
all i am saying is that it is very hard indeed to get all the options... there are basics options but there are lots of options that are much more valuable/desirable/difficult to find that we should focuse on, on the sport car.
i don't buy that kind of car for sat nav or dual control, i buy them because of the engine, chassis, pse ptv and so on... but that i guess is my opinion... it is a pity to put aside a car just because of lack of dual climate control speed control etc..

Real time traffic info and re-routing via Maps/Waze beats the Porsche system every time IMHO Horses for courses.
At the end of the day I use the porsche PCM3.1 sat nav which gets the job done easily and without any faffing. Why would you buy a 981 without Sat Nav built in unless it was a unicorn spec is beyond me.

Because it was stupidly overpriced at £2500 as an option when new and I much prefer Google maps anyway, so I didn't spec it.Buying used, if the rest of the spec is right for you, using a phone is a no brainer. I don't understand why anyone would walk away from a car due to lack of nav!

Common sense, world’s gone soft. Bit like the recent thread on heated seats.
Get in it and drive

Accepting that PCM was grossly overpriced - I have to say the alternatives whether it be Waze or Google maps (I've tried them all) are naff in a £50k car. Yes they may navigate as well but dangling wires which you have to attach when you get in the car because battery life is limited, windscreen suckers (or any of the alternatives) simply look naff. They require you to divert your gaze from the road far more than the built in item and don't integrate with the built in audio. About as naff as the alternatives to built in hands-free telephones.Buying used, if the rest of the spec is right for you, using a phone is a no brainer. I don't understand why anyone would walk away from a car due to lack of nav!
No-one is more in favour of free alternatives than me, but I can't believe that anyone will be using anything but the built in system (on a regular basis) now that it's free in the 718.
Does the new system have live traffic updates and speed camera information? If not, there's still a place for Maps/Waze/TomTom etc.
I use a Kenu Airframe on the air vent nearest the steering wheel and a cable into the 12v in the glove box - very tidy and no suckers. I rarely use the car stereo so integration doesn't matter to me.

Live traffic - yes if you regard TA as that. I have a Garmin with Live traffic and can't say its a significant advance. Speed cams - an issue to me to me too. I have an old TomTom in the armrest with PocketGps world speed cams - far better than anything else. Don't need to plug it in - it just works. And yes plugging in via a Kenu Airframes looks really low rent to me - but each to his own.I use a Kenu Airframe on the air vent nearest the steering wheel and a cable into the 12v in the glove box - very tidy and no suckers. I couldn't care less how it looks given how infrequently I use nav, but I do draw the line at suckers - they're awful things! The Airframe is neat and clever to my eyes but I can understand why an integrated system appeals. However, the price was obscene for it. I think it was £2000 for the nav and then you also had to buy Sound Package Plus, Bose or Burmester!

If you rarely use Sat Nav - then it really doesn't matter if the alternative is a bit inconvenient or looks a bit naff. If you do use it regularly then the built in option is far more convenient. Clearly that is a commonly held view because PCM equipped cars command a significant secondhand premium - on near new cars close to the obscene amounts charged for the option when new. However, the price was obscene for it.
