According to AP, like for like, the 718 GT4 is ~30kgs heavier than the 981 GT4.
According to AP all orders for GT4 & Spyders will be met with no issues as its a production run model this time around but according to 3 OPC i was in touch with all 2020 production is sold and the demand for Spyder version far outweighs what the factory are going to produce

Probably more "fashionable fake facts" from AP on both fronts rolleyes

The OPCs are fobbing you off. All current 2020 slots are sold, but none have been allocated post Q1 yet as the slots haven't been released. Keep asking and you'll probably get a car later in the production run...

This is the same with every GT car. They’re not limited by number but they are effectively limited by build capacity. I think it’s worse now because Porsche are measuring their whole fleet CO2 and presumably adjusting and releasing the higher emission build slots according to that.

You know what this may be correct but I honestly don’t think (based on me asking my and other OPC’s) you’ll get one unless you “buy” it somehow ; either via a low ball PX or buying a 992 , etc, So I think the point still stands; the cheapest way to buy a 718 Spyder / GT4 in the next 12 months will most likely be to buy on the overs market. I know I wish I’d done it this way - would have been a much cheaper journey and if I get a GT4 I’ll definitely go down this route smile

I've not had to "buy" one in any way, but I have been in regular contact with my OPC about 718 GT4s since 2016. Obviously you can't turn back the clock so that option isn't possible any more. However, if you know your OPC and they know you just keep asking and you should get a car unless Porsche decide to cut back on production.

The Spyder is built at Stuttgart and build slots have to compete with all 992 and 718 Boxster variants so I can see why Spyders might be harder to come by. However, if buyers keep nagging OPCs and OPCs keep nagging Porsche GB more slots may open up.

The bottom line is don't give up too easily!

Yep , you may be right but interestingly whilst I’m not my OPC’s “best” customer, I’ve done lots & lots of business with them & I’m surprised how difficult it is to get a GT4 - getting nowhere - I guess they’re waiting for me to offer to buy something else - not going to happen smile

Are you not getting anywhere because you have a Spyder and they're sharing the allocations out across customers?

Sounds like a decent OPC to me if that's the case.

Is the GT4 built there too? I assumed all GT cars were Stuttgart and ‘normal’ 718s built at their other German factory.

No, all Caymans (including the GT4) are built at Osnabruck.

Could well be , but I don’t think so - they are basically trading allocations against other purchases which is stupidly expensive - hence why I say it’s cheaper just to pay the overs smile

Definitely not as easy to get a GT4 as some have made out.
My nearest OPC said I could have a GT4 no problem on the condition I purchased the Panamera Turbo S gathering dust in their showroom........

Sounds a very bad and unfair way to do business especially if they want returning custom..

When I informed the OPC salesman in no uncertain terms that I had absolutely no intention of buying a Panamera Turbo S he replied kindly ‘ look, I’m just trying to find a way of getting you into a GT4’
as if my spending £130,000 on a fast depreciating and unwanted family car was solely to my benefit ! But yes, the kind salesman was just trying to find a way to help me ....

Go into your local Rolex AD and ask for an Oystersteel Daytona and you would probably get a similar answer. The fact is some businesses do operate like this and if you want certain toys sometimes you have to play the game

I’ve read the posts with interest, but my first post on PH in probably 10 years!

But re GT4 and allocations. I have never brought a new Porsche before, I contacted Swindon Porsche and Reading and placed LOI circa 14 months ago for either car. I then went into both dealers to introduce myself. At Swindon I met 2 salesman across 2 visits both gave me time of day, but in both cases pretty short shrift and the 2nd salesman gave me the “buy some other cars” line. Which I have refused. I’m not spending money on cars I don’t want and took a view I’d rather just not get a GT4 than play that nonesense game. Reading was professional but clear in the feedback it was unlikely. In the 12 months or so after placing the LOI I kept in touch via email with both dealerships and the salesman I’d met. Just checked in, shared links to odds and sods on the internet about the cars etc. Sometimes I’d get a reply sometimes not. But I just kept a consistent happy face on and kept trying to engage them.

I went to the Goodwood FOS for the launch and sent them photos and wishes that I hoped I’d get to buy one.

I was offered an allocation by one of the dealerships in Sept. still nothing from the other. I had to pay £3k there and then, filled in some paperwork etc. I could of had a car in 2019, but I’ve actually held off, as I wanted to see a few real world reviews of the car rather than just it at knockhill.

I’m now feeling confident to press on. I was pushed a little earlier to get on in regards placing spec etc. But I just said I wasn’t ready. I took a view I had payed my £3k and been offered the allocation so could work at my pace.

I can only comment that persistence is really important. I’m sure I was being “sold” too but I did ask why I was offered a car and told because if demonstrated I was a genuine enthusiast given my war on them to get a car and sharing info etc. Part of me thinks that is BS and maybe they aren’t selling as expected or paranoias about Brexit, falling car sales, it’s not limited etc etc or maybe I was just lucky. I don’t know inner workings of OPC and Porsche but I simply wasn’t buying cars I didn’t want to establish a relationship. It’s a car, it’s a lot of money, we are a customer we shouldn’t have to beg to be sold too?!

I’m very grateful to the opc I dealt with to now. Seem pleasant and cars look great. I’ve read feelings about sound and hearing. Either can be addressed aftermarket if an issue to me, so chilled about that.

I wish anyone looking to buy good luck. But be persistent. Don’t give up, I was blanked, ignored and told no ALOT. Just kept nodding and being positive.

Exactly right - I was offered a GT4 not once, but twice, only catch was I had to buy a Panamera from stock - made me chuckle smile

Fair play to you James on your allocation, sounds like you did well.

I cannot wait for mine to arrive so I can drive the socks off it.
