Can you post up a picture of the note? It would be really helpful as I can share this with OPC Tonbridge.

Thanks

Hopefully me posting this isn't the kiss of death...

My simple 2012 981 Boxster S PDK with SC its on its original mounts. I have had the car since 2015 ish. 45000 miles currently.

Generally just use it as a Daily Driver inner city type driving. Sad to say - always in Normal mode. Never use Sport Plus and only use Sport mode maybe 10% of the time.

When does the PADM do its thing - assuming its in Sport and Sport Plus modes only?
I don’t think a 2012 car has active engine mounts

Ok great

I thought mine had a wire coming from the mount but doubting myself now. Do you know when they started using these?

Can you expand when PASM was rolled out in the 981 please?
I've a 2013 registered 981 Boxster S (built on December 14, 2012) with option 475 "PASM" & option 640 "Sports Chrono package plus" and option 140 "DYNAMIC ENGINE MOUNTS (PADM)" (so I assume I have PADM) and I'm not aware of any issues with them or them having been replaced. It would be good to know if there.
I also heard a murmur the early PASM mounts predated the fragile ones

I have just emailed you an extract from my correspondence with PCGB - good luck. I used to deal with Porsche Tonbridge - they are (were anyway!) a good bunch so I am sure they will treat you fairly

Mine was done a couple weeks ago at Porsche Tonbridge.

Although it had failed on just the one side, when I booked it in they told me Porsche GB had agreed to do both sides. But... when I dropped it off, they suddenly changed their tune, citing Porsche GB would only authorise the failed side to be replaced under warranty, and instead offered me £300 goodwill against the £1500 it would cost to replace the side not broken.

Given my car is under warranty I declined.

My view is:
1. Porsche GB don't want to spend money on something until they have to.
2. OPC's get paid by Porsche GB for warranty work, so if when the other side goes, Tonbridge will get paid for that one also. So it's double-bubble for them.

Its galling. They need to do yet another geo setup, so wasteful.

I stand corrected. They introduced them in 2010 on the 997.2 GT3. I had one and tracked in many times and hacked around Europe in it without any issues. The newer ones must be more fragile

Ok so I was right. I did see wires coming from mine.

I recently changed standard mounts on my 986 and 996. They look almost identical but with no socket for a wire to connect. Dead easy to do on the 996 - 20 minutes job. On the 986 its a right pain as a lot of stuff has to be removed thats in the way. So I imagine the same on the 981. The standard mounts do age and wear out. I cant imagine why the PADM would be different. So I'd guess these will all probably need replacing at some point in the future by whoever owns these cars.

On my 2022 GT4 I’ve had 4 new PADM mounts.

First error appeared at 7 months, 1,200 miles. Asked OPC to ensure the parts were in hand before I took the car in to avoid delays, the mount was but they forgot to order the bolts causing a delay. Parts fitted, road test & final plug in revealed an accelerometer error, replacement ordered and fitted.

2nd failure at 2,600 miles. Error was intermittent but would show frequently (maybe 10-20 times on a 60 minute blast). Asked OPC to have parts in hand to avoid delays, took the car in, they advised that both mounts need replacing but need to order parts! Parts arrived & fitted, PADM error appeared on test drive. The replacement was ordered and one of the new mounts replaced.

To get the above info from the OPC was like pulling teeth, not once did they phone with an update. The email I finally received simply said “The car is now complete”, no polite summary of the work performed, no apology for the delay, no mention of a geo check to give you confidence that everything was done thoroughly.

The moral of the story is that the PADM mounts have terrible reliability & OPC service departments are atrocious in terms of customer service.

That’s terrible service. Totally destroys your confidence in the product. They keep fitting parts that are not fit for purpose. I guess it ensures people buy an extended warranty at 3 yrs, but just crap service.

My 981 GT4 had zero problems. My 718 has now had 2 warranty calls in 5k miles. 😡

Mines been in to Colchester for official diagnosis after the dreaded warning triangle on the dash.

Both of mine need relaxing and one is out of stock with Porsche and could take up to 6 weeks to arrive.

Still drives ok so it’s being used as normal.

Colchester are also my local OPC.

May I ask if this is covered under the Porsche warranty ?!

Colchester OPC are just round the corner from me… replaced 3 on under warranty my previous 981 CS… I haven’t had the pleasure on my 981 GT4. Yet.

This is why I'm thinking having the warranty is a bit of a no brainer given if you buy 3 years worth it works out around £650 for the year.

One other question though is my car has the front grills and I'm not sure they will warranty the car with those on which seems a little silly to be given they add a layer of protection to the condensers.

Take the grilles off before the 111pt check, get warranty, put them back on
