The Spyder is very unlikely to be the best handling Porsche on any basis, though. I would be amazed if it could be better than the Cayman R (given that they are very similar but the Cayman must, I assume, be more rigid)

Myself and Zyp are local both have white cars, one with buckets one without.

No other cars comes close, only a Lotus Elise New shape charged cooled one would be on my radar.(if the Spyder had not been made)
Some say the best handling car Porsche have ever made,
Not a great deal to choose from though if you want manual and buckets with PSE and Spyder wheels.

as most current owners are now long termers,

Even Zyp and myself are know car flippers but we have both had them over 2 years which is crazy.
I'm Leicestershire/ Darbyshire area. I've also been through a few cars but it will be two years in March with Spyder and have no intention of changing. If you are YouTubing you could do worse than James May's Top Gear review - he sums it up quite nicely (apart from the bocensoredks about the roof - it's a none issue)

My previous car was a V8 and yes I do think it sounded better but PSE fun enough smile

After 3 years plus of Spyder ownership it's finally time for me to consider selling it. I've a new. Golf R arriving in March and also have a 981 Boxster 3.4S manual tucked away in my garage. It's been the best car I've ever owned. It's completely different to my newer Boxster and more of an experience to drive but I'll have to make some space for my next arrival. Question is, what's it worth today, and will it be worth much more if I hang off selling it until April.

10/10 Boxster Spyder manual
Carrara White with Spyder alloys in silver with porsche centres
11350 miles
Leather sports seats
Sound package plus with iPod connection
Bluetooth phone
White dials
Sports gearshift

There's some pretty expensive looking Spyders up for sale, but realistically I thought it was circa £32,500. Can some Spyder experts give me their opinions please.

Thanks every one for the replies especially the heads up ref the locals who might be getting a PM, once I get chance to catch up with my research.
Bluey Green - the 430 went ages ago.
Rob.Kellock -thanks for the link – looks like I need to be a paid up member to see? :-( You tube searches and links most interesting.
Mr Demon - interesting comment handling ref GT3. Plus front engine rear engine comments being personal, subjective and we should let everyone have their say without hassle. I personally love over steer front engine rear wheel drive hence the TVR. Considering I often tour with faster cars in the group, some chance to make the lunch stop before everyone has left would be a bonus, so checking out the Z4M especially now they race and do relatively well (CSL is a great car but not a convertible) would prefer someone else to tweak and modify the BMW and not me losing the money etc.
I am getting the itch for the spyder as its a little different, quirky and Z4`s will depreciate in the mean time etc. Checking the Evo copy 188 which is referred to is next.
What is the roof like in reality does it keep the rain out?
cheers

I had a 430 big valve Griffith a few years ago and came via an Elise and an 80s manual alpina to the spyder. The spyder combines the best of the competence, excitement, sense of occasion and exploitability of those in a way that suits me well. If you want a convenient daily driver buy a normal boxster (or z4m). If you want a track car buy an exige. In betweedm sits the spyder.

You'd get that trade in in some cases. Imho your phone will be ringing off the hook. Wait til spring and I would have thought £35k and it will sell in a few weeks.

the Spyder is def not a over steery car, so if you are after that, then wrong car, unless you pump up the rear tyres and fit a much stiffer rear ARB.

roof is water tight but noisy at speed and of course limited to sub 130mph on if that's an issue touring.

if you tour on the twisty roads then the faster cars in the groups will be in trouble, if you tour on hiways at warp speed then again wrong car, it runs out off aero and puff over 90mph vs cars with more Bhp.

Probably more - I think Zyp had a part-ex offer of £34k recently.

I'd put it up for £35,995 and see what happens.

Apologies - the link came from the Boxster section of the PCGB forum but it doesn't work for me either today.

Spyder roof is water proof save for the very worst of rain storms when a few drips might come in. As posted above, the downside to the roof is wind noise at motorway outside lane speeds.

As for market value, today there are only 4 for sale on here, autotrader and the Porsche websites:

white 61 plate 8k miles PDK £42495 Park Lane
white 10 plate 10.5k miles PDK £40997 OPC Sutton COldfield
black 11 plate 8k miles man £38995 private
white 10 plate 20k miles man £33740 private

Zyp says he was offered £34k for his as a part ex.

Thanks for the feedback on prices. I feel the cars around £40k are a little on the expensive side but obviously I'd be delighted if someone thought mine was worth that much. I'm not in a hurry to sell it but if the right offer comes my way then it will go. Hopefully this will happen before the sun comes out, as I know I will regret selling it on the first nice day of the year when I could take advantage of the roads close to me that featured on Top Gear last year. My 981 Boxster is superb but it's just not as good to drive on proper roads as the Spyder.

Then I would keep the Spyder, and sell the 981 before it plummets in value.

Residuals on Spyders have been very good in the last 18 months or so, and supply has been very limited.

I've probably owned my Spyder longer than most, having taken delivery of it in October 2010 but there always comes a right time to sell, and for me that's just about now. I did secure my 981 Boxster at a very keen deal so I'm pretty sure that if I keep it a couple of years that I'll lose less than I would on my Golf!! Only time will tell.

your new Boxster will fall like a stone, don't see the point keeping that now you have a Golf R coming, Spyder perfect match.

I could have got you a buyer at 35k (if it had buckets) but I am hunting around for a spec which needs to have buckets and PSE on top of your spec.

A lot of new buyers all seem to be ex Lotus or Caterham people who all seem to want a really sporty spec.

then you have the issue where the full comfort spec chair option the guys tend to also want PDK (must be a over 50 thing)

but there is always a buyer at the right price on these cars that's for sure.

I bought mine at 8 months old in the colour and spec that I wanted and at a very attractive purchase price indeed. At the end of the day I didn't buy it to make money, so as long as I enjoy it then it has been worthwhile.

Brought mine from new. Order placed in December 2009, and registered on the 15th April 2010.

Can't see me ever replacing it.
