Thanks for reminding me how much I dislike GT4's in yellow.
Interesting. Obviously we are all different but everyone that has seen mine has commented on how good it looks in that colour. I also like Violet on the 991 RS, would not do for us all to like the same.

Slightly off topic but I took my wifes 718 booster GTS to a 2 day track day in France in Sept. it was brilliant, all who drove it loved it.
One thing, is there any way to turn everything off? It has such wonderful balance so it’s a shame that TC and ESP won’t go fully off. No drifting and lary oversteer sadly

Those that have had both probably only bought them for road driving in which case the Spyder is more suited to road fun than the GT4. So I can see why they might prefer the Spyder. For those of us who buy our weekend car for regularly taking on tracks the GT4 is by far the better car.
Simples.... They are built for a primary purpose, Spyder - road and GT4 - track, and both excel in their intended purpose.
Porsche made them different by design.

Possibility the best way of looking at the 2 cars is this.
The GT4 is clearly a better track car than the Spyder. But it is let down by it's gearing and non GT engine. It is therefore flawed as a GT Porsche imo especially in the engine department. Drive the latest GT3 and you will never want to drive a GT4 again.
The GT4 is a good road car notwithstanding the above flaws. But the Spyder is better imo. Truer to form. Back to basics ethos. More fun, more practical, more usable. Sounds better too. And rarer.
And in the real world of fast A road and B road driving, the Spyder is as rapid as the GT4. And slightly more involving too.
I speak as an owner of both from extensive real world driving experience as opposed to 'armchair experts' opinions btw.

Isn’t the gearbox in the spyder the same as a gt4?
You can’t compare the same age gt4 to a gt3, two totally different price points.

The roof is fine on the 981. Unlike the tent on the 987.
My comparison of the GT4 and GT3 is to illustrate the shortfalls of the C2S engine in a GT Porsche. A screaming 3.4 or 3.6 would have been far better. Rather than a detuned Carrera engine.
This is irrelevant to the Spyder as it is clearly not a GT Porsche.

The 981 Spyder was an amazing car at normal speeds, the steering was fast and direct.(hence people who drive at 70% of the cars window will say how amazing it is) only when pushed it went to poo esp in the wet.
Spyders are mostly used as road cars, so no surprise they're not driven at more than 70% of their limits. The limits on an S/GTS/Spyder/GT4 are so high you're in licence losing territory if you get near to them on the road.Complaining about the issues they have in a situation they find themselves in a couple of times a year (at most) at a track day doesn't make sense to me. Enjoying them in the environment they excel at is a much better use of the car!

Fastest colour though :-p Launch colours are always the best to showcase a car(hence they are launch colours) I changed my order from PTS to go Yellow, imo it was a stunning colour for a GT4 and would be my 1st choice if buying again. As always colours is very personal. But GT cars need solid bold colours imo strange post to make though, but that's forums.

Nothing wrong with the roof on the 981 Spyder - very quick and easy to use once you knew how

Actually most bold flat Porsche GT flat colour polarises opinion..I have a RY GT3 which some love and some hate, same goes for MB,Lizard or Crayon..It is what it is, just a personal subjective individual's perception of what constitutes an attractive colour.
I actually like the LO in an RS or GT3 but not so much in everyday Porsches..I absolutely love Miami in the new RS but generally dislike it in other Porsches..

It’s a good point. An RS or GT3 will carry most colours off. It’s special and can be different. I can stand MB on anything other than the RS. But in my view I stayed away from the spyder due to the roof as I wanted a day car I could drive, lock up in a car park and walk away from. In my view this wasnt it.
In regards to your comparison of a 991 gt3 to a 981 gt4 there’s at to totally different price points. Designed for two different types of customers, so in m opinion your comment is irrelevant. If they were both at a similar price point you would expect a engine with more capabilities.
But on a positive note from the information being passed about it does sound as if the new gt4 may be the car you can start doing a more comparable review.
