Beautiful car, and a great colour.

you are unlikely to be disappointed IMO unless you’re coming from a 981 S/GTSwith PSE.
That's exactly where I'm coming from, and why my feet are getting cold.
Likewise my concern too - love the sound of the 981 GTS......

But too late for me now as I've just sold it!

That's good to know. Is this the general consensus? I'll be using mine as a daily so don't want something thats going to rattle me to death!

I ordered my Boxster GTS4 in September and awaiting some timescale for delivery. I first of all was looking at 981s, but they didn’t seem a whole lot cheaper than a new GTS, so I thought if I resolved to stick to functional extras, not go over the top .... (http://www.porsche-code.com/PM5UB8V6)

Then I came to this forum! I see the pictures of these fabulous cars you are picking up and I’m beginning to wobble, particularly on the interior spec. I do think the leather dash and contrast stitching look fabulous, but to order that it adds in the GTS Interior Pack as well as Leather Interior Pack which comes to over £3300.

On the face of it, Porsche is having a laugh! Sure you get a coloured dial here and a bit of carbon trim there as well as the leather. Am I missing something here on the configurator? Or are you guys just holding your nose and doing it anyway?

I would be interested in your perspectives.

If you can stretch to it, why not have all the extra's you want to make the car perfect for you?

Agreed. If you're buying the car, rather than planning on handing it back at the end of a PCP deal, make it how you want it to be.

I am adding the extended leather but not the GTS interior pack.

2 lines of thought - one being get everything you want, tother being don't get sucked into it. I've tried to take a balanced approach but am still umming and ahhing!!

This is what I struggled with. I’ve gone more towards “everything I want” but drew a line in the sand with a total on-the-road price that I wasn’t going to cross. I stuck to it...just!

I debate the same for ages. In the end I added the GTS Interior Pack and I think it’s great. It’s a complete rip off for what it is but that’s how Porsche are keeping the headline price down a a making good margin on sales. I agree with the point made earlier- if you’re handing it back in 3 years then beware because you’ll pay that option cost over the pcp. If you plan on keeping the car a long time (I do) then go have a look in real life if you can and see what you prefer. You have to draw a line somewhere

Porsche are having a laugh.

My perspective is that this is the entry-level sports car from Porsche, and as such, don't spec it out like a tart's handbag. It's not a Cayenne or Macan (or a 911).

Agreed. And a £70k car is not the entry level, that's a base 718. This is the top level non-GT Cayster. You could even argue it's the only sports car Porsche make given that the 911 is now really a Grand Tourer.

Nothing wrong with tart's handbags either, some people do that with GT4s biglaugh

The base cars are superb. Always makes me smile the way Porsche salesmen are able to talk gullible customers into spending £000s on unnecessary options.

I actually really like that approach. The original 987 was pretty basic and didn't stop owners having a hoot. ANY spec GTS 4.0 is going to feel plush.

It's all about that engine and chassis after all (isn't it?)

If it was my car it would be all base apart from buckets...

if it were mine then it would have a leaher dash over buckets. looks cheap and nasty without.

You spend a long time looking at the dash, it arguably drives largely the same without any of the options fitted.

Are you intending to purchase it outright or give it back once your finance deal comes to an end. If the latter, does it really matter as its essentially a hire car. If the former, then looking at your spec, ask yoruself do you really need some of these

Seat ventilation
Fire extinguisher
Heated multifunction steering wheel

you really need
ParkAssist (front and rear) including reversing camera

rather than

ParkAssist (front and rear)

I think you could trim some of these down to allow you to get the GTS interior and leather dash.

Thanks for all your feedback Guys, much appreciated. I had missed a trick on the configurator - RichDS pointed it out. You can have the extended leather at a reasonable price (£1242) although it only has the contrast stitching with GTS Interior Pack. That feels better to me, it's the GTS interior pack that gives me the allergic reaction on value for money.

To julian987R - you are right I can get rid of some of the other stuff. The reversing camera was a negotiating point with the other half. She said that she'd be petrified of reversing without it. Not going to argue that one! The other outrageous one that cut across my 'keep cool on options strategy' is body coloured rollover hoops. OMG. But once again I had to nod sagely at the other half to clinch the deal 'internally'. The dealer was no problem after that.

It's now down to Boris getting a deal with Europe. Adding £7k for absolutely nothing would bring me out in that rash again!

Well, paid the deposit yesterday for one of these cars and as an ex TVR (in their day) owner and a couple of 996's (when the kids were younger), looking forward to being back in the Porsche fold again. Plan is for this to be a keeper as it may just be one of the last top ICE cars (in my budget range) before emissions and electrification change things forever.

Thanks to some recent posters views re specs I'm also trying to show restraint but mindful that if its a keeper, options like LED's should perhaps be ticked. Initially being told quarter 2 delivery which would be nice in time for summer. I rolled a Le Mans ticket over from this year, but who knows if it will happen.

Is it true the stock 718 dash looks pants compared to earlier 987, 981 models. I had a quick go in 718T and interior did feel a bit 'plastic' come to think of it (although I was concentrating on other things during the drive). So is that a cunning ploy to get ones to upgrade at the config stage.
